Andy, Mike, and Jason are back to reflect on an exciting weekend of offense. Remember to listen to The Fantasy Footballers podcast, available wherever you listen to your podcasts.
Monday – Week 9 Studs and Duds and Allen FIRED, Barn Burners
To start things off, the guys get sophisticated.
Ready to Roll
This week, the guys dive into the red zone report, looking at which teams are successful and effective in the red zone. Right now, Baltimore is outrageous, scoring a TD 74% of the time when they are in the red zone – Derrick Henry is a big part of this success. Mike mentions how good Washington is currently, but they could turn some of those field goals into TDs moving forward. Tampa Bay and Detroit are also having success. At the bottom are the Giants, Cowboys, Niners, and the Packers. Andy thinks we could see an uptick for the Packers and Niners.
News
The Saints have fired Dennis Allen, and Jason rejoices. Keon Coleman may have an injury, so keep an eye out there. Drake London left early with a hip issue, but the early response is optimistic. Chris Olave is in the concussion protocol after a brutal hit. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are also battling injuries, and rookie TE Erick All Jr. tore his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
Studs
Joe Burrow looked great this weekend, and Jalen Hurts was on fire. It is up in the air how Hurts will do if A.J. Brown misses time. Kirk Cousins was also successful, and the Falcons have a great playoff schedule for QBs. Sam Darnold also did well on Sunday night. The RB studs are highlighted with Saquon, backward hurdling himself into a first-place finish on the week so far. Alvin Kamara should see all the work moving forward, and it is clear that De’Von Achane is both the RB1 and WR2 in Miami. Chuba Hubbard had a great day, but it might be done with Jonathon Brooks‘ return. Huzzah Rico Dowdle!
JSN was one of the top scores for WRs, followed up by Zay Flowers and QJ. There was no D.K. Metcalf out there for Seattle, and there are rumors he might be traded. Johnston is out there on waivers. Darnell Mooney continues to dominate in Atlanta, and if London misses anything, Mooney is a must-start. Cedric Tillman came out in garbage time. Sticky Gesicki had the best week for TEs. Every other TE that was successful was not a big name, and Trey McBride is still searching for that receiving TD.
Duds
Kyler Murray is the big name here, scoring perhaps his lowest fantasy points ever. It was a terrible performance by Jordan Love in the pouring rain. Jonathan Taylor had a rough game for Indy on Sunday night but has a few good matchups coming up. Joe Flacco was also disappointing. Both Jags RBs had trouble on Sunday, and Nick Chubb did not deliver. Alexander Mattison lost a TD carry to Zamir White. Puka punched a guy in the helmet and got ejected, and the Rams won anyway. Marvin Harrison let people down again and might be a matchup-dependent WR. Jaylen Waddle salvaged a day with one TD, and that was it. Michael Pittman was not a thing, and Andy suggests buying low on Brian Thomas Jr. Pretty much every other TE was bad.
Enjoy the Monday night matchup!
Tuesday – Week 10 Waivers and Jason’s Flying House, Difference Makers
Monday Night Recap
Even with Cade Otton continuing to be excellent, the Chiefs pulled it out. DeAndre Hopkins again looked relevant with two TDs, and Jason thinks he is a must-start every week. Patrick Mahomes finally had a great week, partially because Baker required him to be great. Mayfield’s strong performance gave him 23 TDs, and he now leads the NFL.
Difference Makers
It is time to address the insurance policies, especially for the RBs. Mike loves Ray Davis for Buffalo, and Braelon Allen has zero tough matchups left for the Jets. The guys also mention Blake Corum. If you have James Conner, you must also own the backup in Arizona. Demercado would be the change of pace back, so Trey Benson would be the insurance policy here.
News
Dak Prescott is going to the IR with a hamstring injury, and CeeDee Lamb might also miss time. But do not worry, the Cowboys traded for Jonathan Mingo. The Bears traded Khalil Herbert to join the Bengals, with Zack Moss heading to IR. He becomes a good insurance back. It is reported that CMC should play football in Week 10, and A.J. Brown is not expected to miss significant time.
Waiver Wire
The guys start by mentioning Rico Dowdle and Jonathon Brooks, who are widely rostered but, if available, should be picked up. Jaylen Warren is also an option, but it is a tough week for RBs. Take a look at Cam Akers, with Ty Chandler not getting anything done in Minnesota. Quentin Johnston should be the big spend on the WR side, and with Herbert throwing the ball more, he could be a good option. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker need to be addressed, and managers will spend on Demarcus Robinson this week, but the guys see him only as a matchup play. Mike brings up Jauan Jennings who was on bye last week, and Demario Douglas in New England. Monitor Darius Slayton, who is in the concussion protocol but has a good matchup this week.
How much FAAB are you spending on Sticky Gesicki? Jason says it is worth it until Tee Higgins returns, as Gesicki is getting tons of targets, and Erick All Jr. is out for the season. Juwan Johnson is one of the last men standing in New Orleans, and Jonnu Smith has been very involved. Theo Johnson and Ja’Tavion Sanders could also be looked at as options. Defenses to consider include the Giants, Falcons, and perhaps the Cardinals.
Full Stream Ahead
Andy is going with Justin Herbert this week, Jason likes Kirk Cousins, and finally, Mike is streaming Daniel Jones.
Wednesday – Trade Tips & Burrow/Lamar Face-Off, Dowdle’ing!
Hungry for More
Andy is hungry for more from any Tampa Bay WR. Baker has been outstanding without his big stars, and Andy is ready to see someone else stand up. Jason wants to see more from Zay Flowers, and obviously, Mike is hungry for more Rico Dowdle.
News
The Steelers traded for Mike Williams, and he could be a nice fit there. New Bengal Khalil Herbert might see the field this Thursday.
Thursday Night Breakdown
The Bengals and Ravens battle this week in a nice over/under game, and most players are solid starts. Andy doesn’t see a world where a blowout undermines fantasy goodness. Derrick Henry should continue his studliness, but both teams are pretty solid against the run. Jason is still okay with playing Chase Brown, and if Higgins misses again, Sticky Gesicki is a go.
The guys close out with some mailbag questions and put a bow on the day.
Thursday – Starts of the Week and Week 10 Breakdown, Loose Moose
News
The Carolina Panthers like Chuba Hubbard so much that they signed him to a four-year contract. Dak Prescott is not looking great injury-wise, and he might require surgery. Trevor Lawrence will also miss some time, and Mac Jones will see some time under center. Chris Olave will take time off before returning to the field, and Kendre Miller might have been placed on the IR out of spite. Baker Mayfield did not practice, but the guys think he will be okay to go.
Starts of the Week
Andy is starting Brock Purdy, D’Andre Swift, and Darnell Mooney and is putting on his titanium underpants with Theo Johnson. Jason is going with Kirk Cousins, James Conner, Tank Dell, and T.J. Hockenson. Finally, Mike is starting Sam Darnold, Tyrone Tracy, Jauan Jennings, and Hunter Henry.
Fantasy Forecast
We head back across the pond with the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers. You are starting Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy, and the Giants’ defense is a great start. You can even plug in Daniel Jones. On the Carolina side, Xavier Legette is an option. New England heads to the windy city to play Chicago. Past the defense and D’Andre Swift, Andy sees very few players to start for Chicago. Rhamondre Stevenson can be started for New England, and Hunter Henry can get you by.
Buffalo and Indy battle next, and Andy thinks the Colts will bounce back this week. Josh Allen, of course, and the two RBs are getting work. Khalil Shakir is startable. Michael Pittman is questionable, and the guys are concerned with the injuries and trying to look elsewhere. The plucky Denver Broncos travel to Arrowhead to play the Chiefs. Start your Kansas City studs, and you could take a chance with Courtland Sutton.
Atlanta and New Orleans play in an NFC South battle. Alvin Kamara will get all the work, and the RBs on the Atlanta side are great starts. Mooney is Andy’s start of the week, especially with Drake London battling injury. You might be able to start Taysom Hill. San Francisco and Tampa Bay are next, and this might be the most fun matchup of the week. You are starting your San Francisco studs fresh off their bye week. With the injuries in Tampa, Andy would go with Jalen McMillan if forced to choose. Deebo and Jennings should be in your lineup if they are playing, and Christian McCaffrey should return.
Week 10 Matchups and Double Shame, Chase BOOM!
Thursday Night Recap
We got everything we wanted on Thursday night, but not the face mask or holding at the end of the game. Joe Burrow and Lamar were fantastic, and Derrick Henry got in the end zone. A good storyline is also Chase Brown, who had nine receptions. It was the best game of the year for Mark Andrews for Baltimore. The game was not great for everyone, with Sticky Gesicki being icky. Zay Flowers also did not deliver.
News
Kyle Shanahan says he expects CMC to play – fire him up. Monitor Drake London and Kyle Pitts as they ended the week limited. Michael Pittman remains sidelined on Thursday. Baker Mayfield will play for Tampa this week, and all of a sudden, Jonathon Brooks is questionable. Jason still has high hopes for Nico Collins.
Fantasy Forecast
Today, the guys start with Pittsburgh and Washington. There are two decent defenses here, especially with the addition of Marshon Lattimore. Start Najee and Pickens for the Steelers, and on the Commanders’ side, you can still go with McLaurin in a tough matchup. Brian Robinson, coming off of injury, is a tough start. Minnesota and Jacksonville battle next, with Mac Jones the probable starter for the Jags. It is a great matchup, and you can start any Viking here. On the other side, it is scary. Jason is alright with starting Evan Engram but suggests caution when considering other players. Bench those RBs.
The Titans head to California to play the Chargers in a low over/under. Calvin Ridley is the last man standing and could be a must-start every week now. J.K. Dobbins is in your lineup, and you could consider one of the Los Angeles WRs. On the Tennessee side, Tony Pollard can be in your lineup if you don’t have a better option. Philly and Dallas battle in an NFC matchup, and we will not see Dak Prescott out there. The Dallas defense is not great, so fire up those Eagles. With Cooper Rush under center, there is apprehension around CeeDee Lamb, but the guys still say to start him.
The Jets fly across the nation to play the Cardinals. With the average Arizona defense, start your big New York names, and James Conner is automatically in your lineup. The question marks are around Kyler and Marvin, and Jason thinks you might have some better options on your roster. Breece Hall could be a smash start. Sunday night brings us Detroit and Houston, and start your Lions studs. LaPorta will require some extra thought, and there might be better options out there this week. On the Texans’ side, Tank Dell is Jason’s start of the week, and Joe Mixon has been outstanding, with the QBs being the only questions here. The week ends with the Rams and the Dolphins. Andy is considering Matthew Stafford and you can start your other Los Angeles offensive weapons. Demarcus Robinson could be started in a pinch. For Miami, you might even be able to start Jaylen Waddle.
