Post-Combine Dynasty Rookie Draft (Fantasy Football)
On the most recent Fantasy Footballers Dynasty Podcast, Mike, Betz, and myself participated in a two-round Rookie Mock Draft.
For those looking for a SuperFlex thoughts, we opened the mock draft giving our thoughts on this year’s class. (I queued it up.) The article we referred to on the podcast is entitled Do We Overvalue QBs in Rookie Drafts? if you want a deeper dive on SuperFlex drafting and Dynasty SuperFlex Ranks.
Here is the draft board for the two rounds we discussed on the podcast.
Round 1
Highlights from the Podcast
- We discussed whether Omarion Hampton had made up enough ground to be considered in a similar tier with Ashton Jeanty.
- The Ohio State RBs are certainly up for debate. TreyVeon Henderson is the more explosive back but Quinshon Judkins‘ early breakout age (18.9) and sneaky passing work (highest TPRR in this class) might make them a coin flip. We can let draft capital ultimately decide
- Betz was not phased by Kaleb Johnson‘s so-so showing at the combine.
- We debated Travis Hunter‘s upside and, once again, we reiterate that it is advisable to push this decision off until Draft Day.
- The TEs both feel like safe, secure options in the middle of the 1st round. Betz betrayed his Penn State loyalties by taking Colston Loveland with Mike following that up with Tyler Warren. We’d be willing to go as high as Pick 6 or 7 depending on their draft capital. Both players have unreal production profiles on a per-route basis and are being mocked as top-20 picks in the NFL Draft.
- We praised Matthew Golden for showing out at the combine (4.29 40-time) and confirming his likely 1st round status. It more so helps his NFL stock than necessarily boosts his dynasty value. We don’t want to double count the combine knowing his production profile is still lacking.
Round 2
Highlights from the Podcast
- Mike remained bullish on Cam Skattebo preferring to be in on him until “the NFL tells me not to be”.
- Cam Ward dropped about as far as we think he will in rookie 1QB drafts. In SuperFlex, he is deserving of being a top-3 pick. We collectively agreed that reaching on the other QB prospects (Sanders, Dart) in SuperFlex is not necessary if the NFL is less excited about them.
- We are likely much higher than consensus on Tre Harris and Jack Bech. We highlighted Harris’ production profile and film on last week’s WR Prospects episode. Bech was a Senior Bowl standout who can win as a big slot at the next level.
- There are a number of wideouts who feel interchangeable at this point in the middle of the second round. If you stock piled a couple of 2nd round picks this year, congrats. This draft should have the value to find a few solid additions to your dynasty roster.
- With multiple RBs showing out at the combine, you likely will be able to choose between Devin Neal, Ollie Gordon II, DJ Giddens, and Dylan Sampson. We could see scenarios where all of these guys end up as Day 2 selections.
Prospects Just Missing the Cut
- Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
- Bhayshul Tuten, RB, Virginia Tech
- Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas
