Week 1 DFS Fades
Jimmy Garoppolo @ MIN
Jimmy G! Everybody’s new favorite quarterback. I won’t lie to ya…I was impressed with his small sample size last year. He won all five of his games and the 49ers paid him like a franchise QB. Garoppolo had two games where he threw for over 300 yards, but he also played some pretty mediocre teams, while throwing five interceptions along the way. Garoppolo is a great story and I’m looking forward to what he can do with OC Kyle Shanahan and company, but not this week. Not in Minnesota against a Vikings team that allowed the fewest points per game last season and only improved defensively in the offseason. They lost one game at home in 2017 and allowed 14 points in the process. Play Jimmy another time, or in one of your SEVERAL lineups. If you’re into that sort of thing. He’s a pass for me. There’s a reason he’s cheaper than Andy Dalton this week.
Patrick Mahomes @ LAC
Here’s another quarterback that I’m excited about playing…in the future. That’s the great thing about DFS versus season-long: You can avoid a player in a tough matchup. There will be plenty of opportunities to play the promising QB. The Chargers possess one of the best pass rushes in the game and allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks. Nobody had more than two passing touchdowns on Los Angeles last season, and only three quarterbacks had more than one in a game against them. Not having to go up against Joey Bosa certainly helps Mahomes, but there’s still some risk here in cash. He didn’t look very accurate in the preseason.
