Biggest Week 11 Studs and Stinkers (Fantasy Football)
With Week 11 mostly in the books, The Fantasy Footballers review and react to the Studs & Duds performances on the latest episode. Here, I’ll highlight the best and worst fantasy finishes from Week 11 and list their upcoming schedule. Note that all fantasy points are in the 0.5-point scoring format. Biggest Studs
Josh Allen, QB Bills
Week 11 at MIA: 21/33 for 256 passing yards, 3 TD | 7 rushes for 56 yards & 1 TD
Upcoming Schedule: DEN, @DAL, / BAL, @PIT, @NE
Josh Allen finally had his breakout game, finishing as the QB1 overall through Sunday Night Football. Allen has been pretty consistent for fantasy owners outside of a Week 4 matchup against New England. While Miami is a juicy matchup, Allen still deserves the recognition for a great performance.
I hate to say it, but I think Josh Allen is droppable now that he’s through a set of easy matchups. While Allen has the skills to put up fantasy points on any given week, his upcoming schedule is miserable. Every single one of his next five matchups is against a team that ranks top-10 in fewest fantasy points given to opposing QBs. Furthermore, his Week 15 and Week 16 matchups are away against the Steelers and Patriots, respectively. Unless he balls out for the next three weeks (in tough matchups), you’re not going to feel comfortable playing him in the fantasy playoffs. Allen is a great streamer in a pool of capable fantasy QBs, so he’s replaceable. While you can certainly keep him on your bench, I would personally drop Allen if I can find another player that has the potential to win me a championship.
John Brown, WR Bills
Week 11 at MIA: 9 receptions for 127 yards & 2 TD on 14 targets
Upcoming Schedule: DEN, @DAL, / BAL, @PIT, @NE
Just like the Josh Stallion, Brown had a monster game this week against an easy opponent. Regardless, Brown looked great. So far this season, Brown has been a safe receiver that would put up 10 fantasy points nearly every week. Unfortunately, Brown faces the same challenging schedule as Josh Allen.
I think John Brown is a good player to trade (away). He should be a decent flex piece, but I think his probability of having a boom game will be very low through the rest of the season. He does have more value than Allen due to the relative scarcity of the WR position compared to QB. However, I would try to trade him for someone with a better playoff schedule. As a reminder, we released a playoff schedule article recently, it’s worth checking out if you haven’t already.
D.J. Chark, WR Jaguars
Week 11 at IND: 8 receptions for 104 yards & 2 TD on 15 targets
Upcoming Schedule: @TEN, TB, / LAC, @OAK, @ATL
Phew, he’s still the alpha in Jacksonville! Chark blew up and commanded a beastly 32% target volume in Foles’ first game back from injury. While the Jags only put up 13 points versus the Colts, Foles put up respectable numbers in his first game back. We knew Chark would survive the QB transition, but some had concerns about Dede Westbrook becoming more involved. Chark remains the lead dog in Jacksonville and should remain to be a must-start every week.
Biggest Stinkers
Deshaun Watson, QB Texans
Week 11 at BAL: 18/29 for 169 passing yards, 0 TD, & 1 INT | 3 rushes for 12 yards | 1 fumble
Upcoming Schedule: IND (Thurs), NE, / DEN, @TEN, @TB
Yikes. The battle of the young stud QBs did not go as planned. Watson disappointed big time. While this reminds us that his offensive line hinders his performance, there is no reason to be worried. Although I would bench him Week 13 vs New England, he is a great asset for your fantasy playoff run.
Brian Hill, RB Falcons
Week 11 @ CAR: 15 carries for 30 yards | 1 reception for 8 yards on 3 targets
Upcoming Schedule: TB, NO, / CAR, @SF, JAX
Hill let fantasy owners down in a game where the Falcons actually looked great. They didn’t need Hill, and he didn’t produce despite a respectable 16 touches. Also, teammate Qadree Ollison (RB, 4 carries) logged the rushing TD. Hill did nothing to instill confidence in starting him in Week 12, and starter Devonta Freeman will be back soon. As fellow TFFB writer Rob Wilson mentions in his latest things we learned article, backup running backs have been incredibly disappointing when given the opportunity to perform.
Cooper Kupp, WR Rams
Week 11 vs CHI: 3 receptions for 53 yards on 3 targets
Upcoming Schedule: BAL, @ARI, / SEA, @DAL, @SF
Kupp disappointed for the second straight week. Jared Goff only threw the ball 18 times! Kupp secured all three of his targets, tying Todd Gurley and Josh Reynolds for most receptions on the night. In a game where Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks were inactive, it’s pretty concerning that Kupp wasn’t more involved. His playoff schedule is also concerning. Kupp has been a disappointment more often than not over the past two months. To put it into perspective, Randall Cobb has been a more productive fantasy wide receiver (avg pts/g) than Cooper Kupp over the past six games.
Is it time to sell Kupp to prepare for the playoffs? I certainly wouldn’t panic, and I think Kupp will bounce back… But I think Kupp is a good sell candidate if you can get high-end WR1 value.
