This is a very special week. The NFL draft starts on Thursday and the Ballers are getting ready for it. During the past two weeks, they shared and discussed their top-20 running backs and wide receivers. Now it’s time to take an early look at the top-10 quarterbacks for the 2024 fantasy season.

Important reminder: It’s still early in the offseason and these rankings are very likely to change in the near future. Some teams might still have some relevant moves under their sleeves, and a good amount of rookies will significantly impact some depth charts once they get picked by their new teams in the next few days.

With that in mind, let’s dive into the early top-10 quarterback rankings.

Note: All statistics used are half-PPR scoring per the Ballers’ Consistency Charts found at JointheFoot.com. Additionally, these rankings do not include incoming rookies.

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB5

Green Bay’s offense has been consistently improving over the years, and at this point, we just have to accept that the Packers are really good at drafting quarterbacks. The Fantasy Football community is really excited about what C.J. Stroud did last year. 2023 wasn’t Jordan Love’s rookie campaign, but it was his first one as a starter and he had a much better season than Stroud. He finished 11 weeks inside the top 12, which was the third most among all quarterbacks, and he was the QB2 in passing TDs, red zone pass attempts, and air yards. He was definitely allowed to air the ball out.

His wide receivers might not sound as exciting as C.J. Stroud’s weapons (Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell), but Love is actually surrounded by very good players and has a new good pass-catching running back in Josh Jacobs. Being five spots below Stroud in ADP, Jordan Love seems like a very valuable draft pick. During the last nine weeks, he had an insane 68% completion rate and was on pace for 4,600 yards, 38 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.

If he can play at that superstar level for a whole season, we’re talking about a potential league winner who is being drafted at his floor.

9. Dak Prescott (DAL)

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB4

After Week 5, Dak Prescott had a great 2023 season with a nearly 5,000-yard, 44-touchdown pace. With Ezekiel Elliott gone, the Cowboys didn’t produce much on the ground, and the offense ran mainly through Dak and CeeDee Lamb. Both of them are now playing for contracts, so they will help each other have the best possible season in 2024.

The only concern might be his 2023 game splits. He averaged 18.52 fantasy points on the road versus 28.16 points when he played at home. He also scored 6.66 fewer points on average against top-16 defenses. The Cowboys finished at the top of their division, which means they will have a difficult schedule, so we have to temper our expectations here. He has a high ceiling, but it will be tough for him to keep the pace on which he finished last season.

8. Joe Burrow (CIN)

Age: 27.4
Best Ball ADP: QB7

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB25

It’s complicated to talk about Joe Burrow’s 2024 outlook. You have to throw away last season and maybe also his rookie campaign. That leaves us with a very small sample for a player we know is good. He has what it takes to have a great season, but a pocket passer needs to have an absolutely perfect season to be a better option than a more mobile quarterback.

Last year, he started the season slow, but after Week 4 he was the QB1 in completion rate for a five-game stretch. He can be elite, but pocket passers depend too much on touchdowns, so you might be better off drafting a cheaper one and then streaming QBs according to schedule. If you do want to take a QB around this ADP, you might need to decide between Burrow and Dak. Who has better weapons? Who do you think is more likely to score over 35 TDs? Dak just scored 36 last season, but both of them have elite receivers at their disposal. These are the things fantasy managers will need to put on a balance when staring at the draft board a couple of months from now.

7. C.J. Stroud (HOU)

Age: 22.6
Best Ball ADP: QB4
Andy: 5 | Jason: 7 | Mike: 9

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB12

The risk is tremendous with C.J. Stroud, but the reward can be very high. He had arguably the most efficient passing season ever for a rookie QB, averaging 8.2 yards per attempt. Nico Collins, Noah Brown, and Tank Dell were his best weapons, and both of them battled injuries through different times of the season. Now he has a reinforced cast of receiving options with the addition of Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon. The ceiling for him in such a pass-happy offensive scheme is as high as Mahomes.

Yes, he still has the chance to become THAT level of elite. It’s in his range of outcomes. But are you willing to bet on that? At his current price, it might be very risky. Just like Dak, he struggled against top-16 defenses. There are also some questions about how much Stefon Diggs has left in the tank. These concerns should be enough to consider passing up on C.J. Stroud. Taking a QB this early means you’re locking him as your starter and that might put your team in a tough spot in unfavorable matchups.

6. Kyler Murray (ARI)

Age: 26.7

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB26

2023 was almost a lost season for Kyler Murray. He came back from injury in Week 10 and had a really hard time getting any production from his team. Hollywood Brown wasn’t available during the last weeks of the season and he really didn’t have a lot of weapons. This year should be different. The Cardinals will most likely draft a big-name rookie wide receiver later this week, and even have a good chance of getting their hands on Marvin Harrison Jr. They also have last season’s tight end sensation Trey McBride, so things are looking up for Arizona.

Being a dual-threat QB, Kyler Murray is a very interesting draft pick at his current ADP. Even last season, coming from the ACL injury and with very limited weapons, he managed to be the QB9 in fantasy points per game from Week 10 on. His current receiving options might not be elite, but they’re good enough for him to have solid fantasy numbers and a very safe floor.

5. Anthony Richardson (IND)

Mike and Jason are all in on Anthony Richardson. Andy is a little more hesitant mainly because the sample is extremely small. He has only played two full games in the NFL and has had four different injuries in four games. There is a big risk cloud hovering over Anthony Richardson. There’s just no way to be completely confident in him. But if you’re willing to bet on him being healthy and playing a whole season at the level he showed during that small sample, you might get yourself a true outlier QB that can go as high as Josh Allen or Jalen Hurts.

Just like with C.J. Stroud, at Richardson’s current QB6 ADP, you are drafting him to be your starter throughout the season. But in his case, the rushing production can give you a much higher upside and his floor should also be safe enough. Just remember Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurt’s rookie seasons. They also had small sample sizes and they weren’t that good. Look at how those two QBs blew up in their sophomore seasons. We’ll see what his redraft ADP looks like in a month or so, but Anthony Richardson will be a very interesting player this year.

4. Patrick Mahomes (KC)

Age: 28.6

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB7

2023 was a tale of two seasons for Patrick Mahomes. He was the QB3 in fantasy points per game during the first nine weeks and the QB18 from Week 10 on. This year he will start the season swimming against the current: he won’t have Rashee Rice during at least a couple of games and Travis Kelce is getting older. We’ll see if they draft a WR at the end of the first round, but even if they do, he won’t make an immediate impact.

During the second half of the season, the Chiefs didn’t use Kelce as much as at the beginning. At his age, this is normal. They want to keep their stars healthy for the playoff run. That’s why they relied so much on the defense and the running game, and it worked. Only five of the Chiefs’ games in 2023 hit the over, simply because they didn’t need to pass the ball that much. They might not need Mahomes to be Superman again this year and this is very concerning for his fantasy football outlook.

3. Lamar Jackson (BAL)

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB3

Lamar Jackson proved he could work under Todd Monken’s system and silenced all his naysayers. He had the most healthy starts of his career (16), he had his highest completion rate ever (67%), his highest yards per attempt (8.9), and the most QB scrambles of his career. He also improved his efficiency considerably, finishing as the QB1 in fantasy points per dropback, and the QB4 in yards per attempt.

The question is: will he run as much as fantasy managers want him to? Last season he had only three games with over 70 rushing yards and he didn’t see as many designed runs as he used to in past seasons. With Derrick Henry arriving in Baltimore, Lamar might see even fewer designed runs in 2024, so he might have to rely on scrambles to maintain his fantasy production.

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB2

Most of Jalen Hurts’ numbers are pretty similar to Lamar Jackson’s. The main differences are that Hurts threw twice as many interceptions and scored way more rushing touchdowns thanks to the tush push. We all know that touchdowns aren’t a sticky stat, and the addition of Saquon Barkley might create some red-zone alternatives to the tush push, but that play is so effective for the Eagles that it’s hard to envision them using it less often. Let’s also keep in mind that Jalen Hurts has one of the best wide receiver corps in the league. So there are many reasons to keep thinking of him as a top-two QB.

1. Josh Allen (BUF)

2023 Fantasy Finish: QB1

Josh Allen’s average draft position in 2023 was 12th overall, and even at that costly price, he delivered. But there are some slightly concerning question marks for this season. He has lost some important weapons now that Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis are gone. The offensive scheme in Buffalo became more run-centric during the second half of the 2023 season. Having said that, if you don’t like waiting for a later-round QB, Josh Allen is in a tier of his own and has been worth his QB1 ADP the last two years as a true difference-maker in fantasy football.
