We’re in the end game now. Every point matters for managers on the cusp of the playoffs, and the NFL season has delivered the final, mega-sized bye week as fantasy regular seasons draw to a close. Baltimore, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, New England, and Washington are off, leaving us scouring the waiver wire to field a full team.

Targets Per Route Run (TPRR) remains one of the most insightful metrics for understanding player opportunity. It tells us who’s running routes and who’s earning looks when they’re out there. As a refresher, Targets Per Route Run, or TPRR, is a metric that quantifies a player’s efficiency in earning targets. For wide receivers, a target is the most important underlying metric to predict consistent fantasy output, so a player’s ability to earn these targets at a high rate is key. Historically, a 20% TPRR is a good minimum threshold we want to see, and the best of the best consistently see TPRRs north of 30%.

Week 13 Reactions

With no teams on bye, there were a lot of storylines to choose from, so we’ll start at the top. The Chargers under Jim Harbaugh wanted to be run-first but will have to expand their play-calling with JK Dobbins hitting injured reserve. Ladd McConkey is Herbert’s best receiver, and he made the most of his routes in Week 13. The former Bulldog only ran 25 routes, but drew a target on almost half of them. Unreal.

Okay, timeout (sorry, Bears fans; that’s a low blow). Can Caleb Williams now support multiple wide receivers?  Both DJ Moore (34% TPRR) and Keenan Allen (18% TPRR) are coming off putting up big numbers in consecutive weeks. Moore has been more consistent this season, but Allen was Williams’ go-to receiver in Week 12 (30% TPRR). You’re starting both of them, but it’s a coin flip for DFS.

Rumor has it that Jerry Jeudy is still catching balls in Denver. He misses out on the top 25 for Week 13, but Jeudy’s 22% TPRR suggests he’ll continue to see a consistent share of the targets from Jameis Winston when Cedric Tillman (20% TPRR in Week 12) returns.

The Season So Far

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has been on fire lately. He’s the overall WR6 over the last three weeks, but his TPRR has hovered around 15% all season. There will be opportunities for Westbrook-Ikhine if the Titans continue to play from behind (they were down 28-0 in Week 13), but I find his production hard to predict and harder to trust in the weeks ahead.

Jaylen Waddle should be started with so many others on bye, but his inconsistency is alarming. Since Tua Tagovailoa‘s Week 8 return, Waddle has lost out in a major way to Jonnu Smith and De’Von Achane. Waddle looks like the fourth option in that offense. Here’s a breakdown of TPRR in that span since Tua’s return:

Amari Cooper has been a huge disappointment since joining the Bills, but there’s reason for hope. The snowy conditions meant Khalil Shakir (17 routes run) was barely eligible for the weekly list, and Cooper only ran 12 routes on the day. He was, however, targeted three times (25% TPRR) and tossed the lateral for Josh Allen‘s historic passing-and-receiving touchdown. If that’s not good juju for the future, I don’t know what is. This is a fool-me-thrice situation, to be sure, but I’m optimistic about Cooper finding his footing when the Bills travel to the more temperate Los Angeles in Week 14.

Finally, let’s check in on the bottom of the list. Despite DeVonta Smith missing the last two weeks, Jahan Dotson has failed to make an impact. And you’d be forgiven for forgetting he was on the Eagles at all.
