It’s that time again! For the 10th(!) year in a row, our 25 Statistics series recaps each position with some of the most meaningful and eye-popping statistics of the year.

For context, I started writing this series way back in 2016 when Andy, Mike, & Jason still were working out of a spare bedroom, and JayGriz didn’t have a job yet.

My goal is to start by giving the broad scope of QB scoring from a league-wide view, and work through the elite tier of QBs before finding the odd and quirky stats of 2025 that might help reframe and give context to several questionable signal-callers.

We will release the Top-10 QB Truth data on Thursday’s Fantasy Football podcast if you want a deep dive into their consistency.

Note: All scoring is 4-point standard QB scoring per the Ballers Consistency Charts found at JointheFoot.com.

1. Perhaps you’ve seen this chart before. Every year I track the number of top-12 weekly performances at the QB position. It’s stayed fairly steady over the last couple of years since collecting this data.

Year
Top-12 Performances
2016 40
2017 43
2018 41
2019 40
2020 38
2021 49
2022 45
2023 46
2024 45
2025 47

Just to jog your memory a bit, here are a few noteworthy names amongst those 47 QBs who might’ve slipped your mind: Russell Wilson (the QB2 in Week 2!), Davis Mills (the QB1 in Week 10), Jameis Winston (the QB1 Week 12!), Shedeur Sanders (QB2 in Week 14), Malik Willis (QB3 in Week 17) and Week 18 stars Riley Leonard and Mitchell Trubisky. Trubisky, the former No. 2 overall pick, became the 1st QB EVER to finish as the fantasy QB1 on the week despite NOT starting the game.

2. We had 62(!) different QBs make an NFL start this year including some with multiple starts that will be hilarious to look back on years from: Philip Rivers (3), Max Brosmer (2), Josh Johnson (2), Cooper Rush (2), and Jameis Winston (2).

Here is some context for the last couple of years for total number of starting QBs per year:

  • 2018– 55
  • 2019– 57
  • 2020– 58
  • 2021– 63
  • 2022– 69
  • 2023– 67
  • 2024– 59
  • 2025– 62

3. 2025 was a down year overall for the QB position. We saw the fewest total pass attempts since 2011 in large part to NFL games averaging almost 2 fewer offensive plays per game in 2025 than 2024. That adds up over time to 550+ total plays lost on the season.

4. We also did not have a single QB hit 23+ fppg this year, the first time that occurred over the last five years. As Ryan Heath pointed out, the top-end of scoring for the position (top-3 in fppg) was the lowest of the last 13 years.

Year 20+ FPPG 22+ FPPG 25+ FPPG
2021 11 5 1
2022 6 4 3
2023 5 1 1
2024 6 4 1
2025 6 1 0

5. Part of the overall lower passing volume was due to the highest scramble rate in recent history:

6. In 2024, Josh Allen became the 1st top-5 fantasy QB without a top-36 scoring WR or top-12 TE. In 2025, he did it again. Same exact thing.

Technically, this was his lowest fantasy points per game since 2019 when he finished as QB6.

7. Allen is currently the all-time QB leader in fantasy points per game (21.9) and rushing TDs (79) in a career by a QB.

8. Despite the fact 21% of his attempts were behind line of scrimmage (highest of his career), Allen just kept on chucking ranking #1 in passer rating versus zone and #1 in fantasy points per drop back versus zone.

9. Drake Maye‘s twelve top-12 finishes were the MOST among all QBs in 2025. Among 38 qualifying QBs with 200+ drop backs, he also ranked:

  • #1 in Completion Percentage (72%)
  • #1 in Yards per Attempt
  • #1 in Passer Rating
  • #1 in QB Scrambles
  • #1 in FPts/Dropback versus Man Coverage

10. Through two years, Maye has the 4th highest pass success rate of any QB through their 1st 2 years in the NFL behind only Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy, and Dan Marino. Through 28 full games in his career, he is averaging 31 rushing yards per game.

11. Matthew Stafford became one of six QBs in league history with 4700 & 46 in a season. His nine finishes inside the top-6 were the most among all QBs in 2025.

12. Stafford was an absolute red zone monster: 33 of his 46 passing TDs were inside the 20-yard line. For context, only 3 QBs had 30+ total passing TDs on the season. Part of that overall TD volume were due to his league-leading 52 “end-zone” pass attempts (aka receiver physically standing in end zone).

13. Consider how wonderful that Week 8 bye was for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It changed Trevor Lawrence‘s season from bleh to being a league-winner for fantasy:

14. Lawrence joined Josh Allen (2023) as the only QBs with 4000+ passing yards, 29+ passing TDs, 9+ rushing TDs in same season. This was despite the fact 8.6% of his pass attempts were dropped, tied for highest rate of any QB over the last 4 years. Approximately 397 “potential yards” were dropped on the season.

15. Dak Prescott set career highs in passing yards and pass attempts while leading the league in completions (404). His ten top-10 weekly finishes was tied with Josh Allen & Matthew Stafford for most among all QBs.

16. Dak finished with his highest rate of games of 21+ fantasy points since 2019.

It is also worth nothing his splits in Cowboys wins (24.0 fppg) versus losses (12.7) were the largest of any QB in the top-15.

17. It was a disappointing end to the Eagles season with a Wild Card exit and a fired OC. Jalen Hurts had only eight rushing TDs and saw his fewest carries inside the five-yard line since 2021.

Year TEAM GP FPPG FF RZ Carries RZ TDs 5-Zone Carries 5-Zone TDs
2021 PHI 15 20.8 9 31 9 12 7
2022 PHI 15 25.2 3 43 11 19 9
2023 PHI 17 21 2 44 15 16 13
2024 PHI 15 21 9 47 14 17 11
2025 PHI 16 18.7 10 27 8 12 6

Much will be maligned about the Eagles offense but Hurts did total the 2nd most passing TDs (18) versus man coverage in the NFL.

18. Bo Nix had a strange season. 33% of his fantasy points came in just 3 games (Week 4 vs CIN, Week 7 vs NYG, Week 15 vs GB) but his numbers looked all over the map. Among 38 qualifying QBs with 200+ drop backs, he ranked:

  • 24th in Comp Percentage (63%)
  • 1st in Sack Rate (3.3%) thanks to his offensive line
  • T-3rd in 20+ Air Yard Attempts
  • 30th in “Off-Target” Rate (18% of throws)

The only QBs with a worse Passer Rating (75.9) in the Intermediate Area of the Field (10-19 yards) were Geno Smith, Bryce Young, Cam Ward, and Shedeur Sanders.

19. Caleb Williams set Bears all-time passing yardage mark (3,942) but he was also quite erratic in a number of areas. He ranked dead last in completion percentage versus zone coverage (59.8%) and 34th among 18 qualifying QBs in catchable target rate (69%). He did see a massive improvement in the sack department going from a 30% pressure to sack ratio (only Will Levis was worse) as a rookie to 3rd best in the NFL this year at just 10%.

20. Justin Herbert became the 1st QB since 2018 (Deshaun Watson) to lead the league in % of drop backs pressured (43.3%) and make the NFL playoffs. He did lead all QBs in rushing yards via scrambles (439) and ranked 2nd overall in total QB rushing yards (498) behind only Josh Allen.

21. The only QBs who can lay claim to being a top-10 fantasy scoring QB each of the last four years: Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Jared Goff. Despite having just one top-12 finish in the first nine weeks of the season, he averaged 20.3 points per game from Weeks 10-16 to storm back. He did implode in Week 17 at MIN (2.1 totalfantasy points thanks to 2 INTs, 3 fumbles, and 5 sacks) causing many to lose their fantasy championships.

22. Rookie Jaxson Dart ranked 4th in fantasy points per drop back (tied with Drake Maye) thanks in large part to the 4th highest scramble rate (9.2%) in the league. He averaged 41 rushing yards per game in his starts, 5th best ever among rookie QBs.

23. It wasn’t a pretty year for No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. He had just ONE top-12 finish on the year (Week 12 vs SEA- QB4) thanks in large part to the Titans trailing on 72% of his drop backs, 5th highest in the NFL. His 5.9 yards per pass attempt ranks 32nd out of 35 1st Round QBs over the last decade.

24. From Weeks 14-18, Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough averaged 20 fantasy points per game, 70% comp. and 27 rushing yards per game. He crushed it in the intermediate area of the field leading the NFL in completion rate (73%) and ranking 3rd in yards per pass attempt (11.5) in the 11-19 range of the field. Among non-first round rookie QBs, only Dak Prescott (2016) averaged more fantasy points per game over the last decade.

25. Jacoby Brissett was one of the best fantasy stories of the season. Per our Fantasy Footballers consistency charts, his streak of NINE consecutive top-12 finishes (Weeks 6-15) stacks up against some other great streaks of 9+ since 2019:

Keep in mind the Cardinals trailed on 28% of Kyler Murray‘s drop backs (lowest % in NFL) and 73% of Brissett’s drop backs (4th highest %)
