Analyzing Wide Receiver Performances for Week 13 (Fantasy Football)
Week 12 was packed with chaos and highlights, starting with the Cowboys’ wild victory that featured an unbelievable kick return touchdown from KaVontae Turpin. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes pulled off some late-game magic to help the Chiefs escape Charlotte with a narrow win. Green Bay delivered an annihilation of San Francisco, and Saquon Barkley continued his dominant stretch for the Eagles, cementing his case as one of the best weapons in football.
As we look ahead to Week 13, we’ll use key metrics like TPRR, YPRR, and 1D/RR to identify players poised for positive or negative regression. By digging into the data, we’ll discover who’s set to shine and who could be a risk moving forward. Plus, I’ll wrap things up with an updated Predictive Receiver Score (PRS) to highlight the biggest movers of the week!
First Downs per Route Run (1D/RR)

Overperformer: Terry McLaurin (Washington Commanders)
1D/RR: 0.027
Result: 5 receptions, 102 receiving yards, 1 TD
Receiving Fantasy Points: 18.7 (half-PPR)
Terry McLaurin turned in an overperformance relative to his 0.027 1D/RR, but the context of this game was just as bizarre as the numbers suggest. The Commanders’ offense stumbled through countless mistakes, including fumbles and special teams blunders, in a game that felt more like a collection of mishaps than a football contest. Despite these issues, McLaurin salvaged his fantasy day with an 86-yard touchdown reception in the game’s final seconds, capping off one of the strangest games of the week.
This marked Washington’s third straight loss, and concerns about Kliff Kingsbury’s offenses faltering late in the season are bubbling to the surface. While McLaurin remains a trustworthy option for the stretch run, the Commanders’ recent form introduces a slight unease.
Underperformer: Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
1D/RR: 0.143
Result: 5 receptions, 68 receiving yards, 0 TDs
Receiving Fantasy Points: 9.3 (half-PPR)
Fresh off his hamstring injury, Mike Evans made his return to the field in Week 12, running a modest 21 routes but still managing to command six targets from Baker Mayfield. Evans delivered a solid performance, though his fantasy output didn’t match the potential of his 0.143 1D/RR number. Limited route participation and a lopsided game script against the Giants—who were utterly overmatched by “Italian Baker” and the Buccs—kept Evans from a more explosive outing.

The good news? Big Mike looked sharp when given opportunities, and Mayfield clearly trusts him in key situations. As the Buccaneers gear up for a potential playoff push, Evans is positioned to be a dominant force in fantasy lineups. With an increase in snap count and more competitive game scripts, his arrow is pointing up as the fantasy playoffs approach.
Targets per Route Run (TPRR)

Overperformer: Calvin Austin III (Pittsburgh Steelers)
TPRR: 0.125
Result: 3 receptions, 78 receiving yards, 1 TD
Receiving Fantasy Points: 15.3 (half-PPR)
Calvin Austin III outpaced his modest 0.125 TPRR in what turned into a winter wonderland game in Cleveland. The snow globe conditions came in strong at halftime, but then the game came alive with some late scoring, in which Austin showcased his knack for making big plays. His explosiveness has been evident, even if his opportunities have been sporadic this season.
Austin has carved out a niche as a field-stretching threat, and while he isn’t someone I’m rushing to start, he has some appeal in deeper leagues during bye-week crunches. If you’re feeling adventurous, throwing him in as a flex play and hoping for a few moon balls from Russell Wilson isn’t the worst gamble. Just be prepared for some volatility, as his production hinges on those big-play moments.
Underperformer: Zay Flowers (Baltimore Ravens)
TPRR: 0.364
Result: 5 receptions, 62 receiving yards, 0 TDs
Receiving Fantasy Points: 8.7 (half-PPR)
For the second week in a row, Zay Flowers makes an appearance, but this time as an underperformer. With a staggering 0.364 TPRR, his output didn’t quite match the volume—a stark contrast to his overperforming status just a week ago. It’s fascinating how these trends emerge, and it’s one of the reasons I love analyzing performances through these metrics.
Flowers’ dip feels like normal regression after his recent highs, and there’s no reason to panic. His target volume remains encouraging, and he continues to be a central piece of the Ravens’ offense. Fantasy managers can confidently keep him in lineups, trusting that these swings are part of the ebb and flow of a wide receiver season.
Yards per Route Run (YPRR)
Overperformer: Demarcus Robinson (Los Angeles Rams)
YPRR: 0.441
Result: 2 receptions, 15 receiving yards, 1 TD
Receiving Fantasy Points: 8.5 (half-PPR)
Demarcus Robinson finds himself on this list as an overperformer, thanks to his touchdown-dependent nature. With a modest 0.441 YPRR, his recent success stems largely from finding the end zone rather than consistent yardage or volume. However, he’s been running hot in the touchdown department, making him an intriguing player to monitor.
For fantasy purposes, Robinson remains a deep dynasty play at best, only worth considering if injuries or byes leave you desperate for a starting option. That said, he’s become a fun bet for an Anytime Touchdown lately, as he seems to have a knack for delivering in the red zone.
Underperformer: Tank Dell (Houston Texans)
YPRR: 2.057
Result: 3 receptions, 72 receiving yards, 0 TDs
Receiving Fantasy Points: 8.7 (half-PPR)
Tank Dell’s underperformance this week stung, especially given the context of the game. The Texans, heavy favorites, were upset by the Titans in a tight contest, making Dell’s lackluster fantasy output all the more disappointing. For a player who entered his sophomore season with high expectations, it’s been a frustrating campaign for those who believed in him during the offseason.
The parallels to Tony Pollard’s struggles last year following his broken leg are hard to ignore. Like Pollard, Dell is a dynamic talent but may still be working his way back to peak form. The silver lining? Pollard turned it on during the fantasy playoffs last year, and I’m holding out hope Dell can follow suit. With his talent, he remains worth the wait for managers in need of a late-season spark.
Applying PRS to Predict Fantasy Points
As we wrap up Week 12, it’s clear that some trends are beginning to take shape. Zay Flowers continues to intrigue as his performances oscillate between over- and under-performing. Meanwhile, Demarcus Robinson has been riding a hot streak of touchdown dependency, though his outlook remains limited to deeper leagues. On the other hand, Ladd McConkey has quietly cemented himself as a top-24 presence in PRS this season. His future in the league is bright, and if the Chargers can pair him with a true WR1, McConkey has the tools to become one of the best WR2s in the game. Week 13 is almost here, so let’s start to lock in those playoff spots!
