Summary:
The Importance of Making the Fantasy Playoffs 01:57
- Making the playoffs is a significant accomplishment in fantasy football.
- Many teams that start off with poor records can still make the playoffs with a strong finish.
- Teams that get hot at the right time have a good chance of winning the championship.
“Those are the teams that go on to win the championships oftentimes because they got hot at the right time.”
Superstitions and Strategies for the Playoffs 02:31
- Some fantasy football players have superstitions or strategies they employ during the playoffs.
- Examples include changing team logos or playing inspiring songs.
- Being kind to your opponent and sending positive energy can also be beneficial.
“I really think it’s just being kind to your opponent, making sure that they know how special they are, how valuable they are, how much you wish them the best.”
The Power of Playoff Songs 03:28
- Having a playoff song can be a source of inspiration and motivation.
- A chosen song can pump up a player and provide reminders of what it takes to succeed in the playoffs.
- One example of a playoff song is “Go the Distance” by Michael Bolton.
“And if you listen to that song, it’s pretty much talking about a fantasy football player heading into the playoffs.”
Tips for the Fantasy Playoffs 04:33
- Pay attention to NFL news and Thursday night games for injury updates.
- Keep an eye on the waiver wire for players dropped by other teams.
- Consider blocking your opponents from acquiring valuable players.
- Remember to check out the fantasy footballers Dynasty podcast for more discussions and insights.
“And don’t forget to continue looking at your opponent and what they need and what is out there that they should be grabbing that they will not be able to because you block them.”
Drake London‘s Performance 08:21
- Drake London had an impressive game, catching 10 passes for 175 yards.
- London showcased his skills as an alpha number one wide receiver.
- London is averaging two yards per route run, highlighting his abilities.
“Drake London is just… a fantastic player. He’s averaging two yards per route run.”
Frustration with Drake London‘s Season 08:54
- Despite his talent, London’s season has been frustrating due to his circumstances.
- It was satisfying to see him have a breakout game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- Along with London, Bijon and Kyle Pitts also had standout performances.
“It’s been a frustrating season knowing what Drake London could be doing if he were in a different circumstance. They gave him this opportunity against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, gets 175 yards, monster game.”
Challenges for Drake London 09:33
- One of the main challenges for London has been receiving catchable passes.
- His catch percentage has been low, with only 20% of the targets being caught in a previous game.
- The question is whether Desmond Ritter can consistently deliver accurate passes.
“The problem has been can the ball get close enough to the area where he could catch it with his hands because… he caught 10 of 11 targets this last game. He has never had a game with that high of a catch percentage.”
Vikings QB Situation 17:51
- Nick Mullins has been named the starting quarterback for the Vikings against the Bengals.
- This was expected as Jason mentioned it yesterday.
- Mullins was meant to be a backup while he recovered from injury, but Dobbs was thrust into the game and won it.
- Dobbs was seen as a one-game wonder and Mullins is considered an upgrade.
“Mullins is an upgrade over Dobbs for the passing game.”
Importance of Monitoring Alexander Mattison and Justin Jefferson 19:01
- Alexander Madison’s status is doubtful for the upcoming game and should be monitored.
- If Madison is out, Justin Jefferson‘s fantasy value is also affected.
- Jefferson had a disappointing performance last week, and now with a new quarterback in Mullins, things could change.
“If Justin Jefferson is active, I’m 100% still starting him.”
Updates on Tyreek Hill and Other Players 19:40
- Tyreek Hill is day-to-day with an ankle injury but is expected to play.
- Nico Collins is making progress and feeling better.
- Stroud is still in concussion protocol, leaving the Houston team unknown in terms of quarterbacks and wide receivers.
“Tyreek Hill is not a guarantee to play, but I think he’ll be playing.”
Jonathan Taylor‘s Potential Return 20:42
- Jonathan Taylor is expected to play again this season.
- The team did not put him on IR and he has already missed two weeks.
- It is realistic that Taylor could be back for the playoffs against Atlanta or the following week against the Raiders.
“I don’t imagine he plays this week, but it’s realistic that he could be back for next week in the playoffs.”
Thursday Night Preview: Chargers vs. Raiders 22:09
- The Chargers are facing the Raiders in a matchup where both teams have lost multiple games.
- The Raiders are home favorites with the line set at 34, indicating a low-scoring game.
- The absence of Justin Herbert and the poor performances of the offenses make this a lackluster fantasy matchup.
“This is a barfest for fantasy.”
Keenan Allen‘s confidence to play Joshua Palmer 26:22
- The speaker mentions that they jettisoned Joshua Palmer from their roster after last week’s game because they realized they would never have the confidence to play him.
- They want to remove any question about playing Joshua Palmer from their mind in future weeks.
“I will never have the confidence to play Joshua Palmer if he comes out and has a good game.”
Considering matchups for fantasy football starters 26:46
- The speaker asks if it would be wise to sit Keenan Allen and start Devonte Smith against Seattle.
- They then mention another favorable matchup, Cortland Sutton against Detroit, but express uncertainty without having information about Keenan Allen‘s practice status.
“Would you sit Keenan Allen if you could pivot to Devonte Smith against Seattle?” “Cortland Sutton in a plus matchup against Detroit in Detroit.”
Benching Keenan Allen for Jaden Reed 27:34
- The speaker talks about Jaden Reed, a rookie wide receiver for the Packers, who has been performing well due to injuries around him.
- Despite being a questionable start every week, the speaker asks if it would be worth benching Keenan Allen for Jaden Reed against Tampa Bay.
“Would you be willing to bench Keenan Allen for Jaden Reed, rookie wide receiver for the Packers against Tampa Bay?”
Jimmy Garoppolo‘s benching and its impact on Devonte Adams 29:21
- The speaker discusses the possibility of Aiden O’Connell getting benched for Jimmy Garoppolo if he plays poorly in the week.
- They mention that Devonte Adams and Jakobi Meyers would benefit more if Jimmy G is in the game.
- They also highlight the difficulty for the defense when the offense is struggling, giving limited opportunities to players like Keenan Allen.
“It’s much better for Devonte Adams and Jakobi Meyers if Jimmy G is in there.” “It’s unfair to the defense to be like your offense is inept, you have to carry us.”
Assessing Easton Stick‘s potential passing yards 31:00
- The speaker speculates that Eastern Stick, if starting, would likely have around 200 passing yards and one touchdown in the matchup.
- They mention Quentin Johnston, Austin Eckler, and the tight ends as potential targets for Stick.
“I think the Chargers would be like you did pretty good out there.”
Trust Your Studs? 33:47
- It is recommended to start players even when they are not performing well.
“You have to start him. I mean his opportunities even when he was sucking.”
Kenneth Walker or Austin Ekeler 33:53
- The question is about whether to start Kenneth Walker or Austin Echler.
- The matchup is between Walker against Philly.
- The recommendation is to go with Echler, who still has a lot to prove for the rest of the season.
“I’m going to go Echler there. I would go Echler there. Echler still has a lot to prove rest of the season.”
Ekeler’s Recent Performance 34:01
- Echler has had 16 opportunities, 17 opportunities, and 17 opportunities in the last three weeks respectively.
- Last week, he had a good performance with over five yards per carry.
“Last week he looked pretty good. It was, you know, over five a clip.”
Ekeler’s Recovery from Ankle Sprain 34:20
- Echler has been recovering from a high ankle sprain which could take months.
“He had burst, and you know Mike’s talked about he’s been coming back from this high ankle sprain which sometimes could take you know months.”
Trey McBride or David Njoku for Fantasy Playoffs 35:22
- The question is about who to start between Trey McBride and David Nidoku for the fantasy playoffs.
- McBride has a matchup against the 49ers, while Nidoku faces the Chicago Bears.
- San Francisco is the second-best defense against tight ends in the league.
- The recommendation is to go with McBride, as he is expected to have more targets.
“Trey McBride gets the 49ers. David Nidoku gets the Chicago Bears. San Francisco is the second-best defense against tight ends in the league… I feel like McBride is a target guarantee like I would bet the targets are higher for McBride than Nidoku.”
Kyler Murray or Trevor Lawrence 39:06
- The question is about whether to start Tyler Murray or Trevor Lawrence.
- Murray is facing San Francisco, while Lawrence is up against Baltimore.
- Baltimore is the second-best team against quarterbacks.
- The recommendation is to go with Murray due to his mobility and higher baseline from disaster.
“For me, I’m going to go Kyler. I think his mobility gives me a higher baseline from disaster.”
“I will go with Kyler’s rushing ability and hope that if he gets, you know, 50 or 60 yards on the ground that it comes with a rushing touchdown and have that baseline.”
Trust Your Studs Test 42:14
- Kyle is described as a fantasy AI who can provide stats and answers to questions.
- The hosts discuss whether they trust their star players.
- They mention a listener’s question about choosing between Stefon Diggs and Rashod Bateman in a PPR league.
“I’m still going to go digs…The targets are there for digs…I’m still going digs.”
Matthew Stafford vs Patrick Mahomes 44:09
- A listener asks whether they should start Matthew Stafford or Patrick Mahomes.
- The hosts agree that Stafford is the better choice due to his recent performance and favorable matchup against the Rams.
- They also mention that Stafford has been performing better than Mahomes in the past few weeks.
“I am playing him [Stafford] over my homes on my team…He’s been playing better and he’s got the better matchup…I’m rolling Stafford.”
Adding/Dropping Players After Playoff Elimination 46:36
- The hosts discuss whether non-playoff teams should be allowed to add/drop players.
- They mention that some leagues restrict non-playoff teams from making changes, while others allow it.
- The preference is for active participation from all teams, as long as there are external reasons or incentives.
- They caution against making arbitrary moves that could negatively impact other teams and lead to accusations of collusion.
“I think if there is no purpose to you playing…then the only thing you’re doing is trying to disrupt somebody…I’ve never been on that side until really today in this discussion.”
Fantasy Football Cooperative 50:21
- In fantasy football, it is important to work together as a team.
- If one person wins and the other loses, it still counts as a win for the team.
- Winning should be the ultimate goal in fantasy football.
“Football together you should be doing cooperative. So if she wins and you lose you lose if you win and she loses you win that fantasy. Yeah. Which is all that matters right now.”
Show Respect and Go the Distance 50:35
- It is important to maintain respect and sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome.
- Even if someone loses, they will eventually get over it.
- Showing your best performance and supporting your team is a form of respect.
“Yeah. I mean whoever loses they’ll get over it. Go the distance. Yeah. Show your wife great respect by putting your best foot forward and showing her how great you are by a piece of football and then by your pizza.”
Waiver Wire Reminder 50:41
- A reminder to pay attention to the waiver wire and make necessary changes.
- The waiver wire allows fantasy players to claim players who are not currently on a team.
- Being active in the waiver wire can significantly improve a team’s chances of success.
“All right one last reminder to drop it like it’s hot waiver wires going through see who the other league mates have sent into the waiver wire tomorrow starts the week matchup previews.”
Uncertainty with Jimmy Garoppolo 50:56
- Previously, it was expected that Jimmy Garoppolo would start for the Raiders.
- However, the head coach is now undecided about the starting quarterback.
- This uncertainty adds an element of unpredictability to the game.
“Yeah. Because I mean we had talked about Oh yeah this is Jimmy Garoppolo but now it’s being reported head coach Antonio Pierce of the Raiders he’s not decided who will start. So this is this is upgraded from a mid game move to maybe we just play Jimmy Garoppolo which would be fantastic.”
Andy’s Advantage 51:23
- Andy’s team has been performing exceptionally well so far.
- Devonte Adams is a key player on Andy’s team.
- There is speculation that Brian Hoyer may replace Garoppolo as the starting quarterback.
“I could tell you there’s no there’s no chance that Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t start. Everything has worked. Why Jason. Because Andy has Devonte Adams. No no no I know we’ve got Devonte Adams. I’m just saying every single thing that needs to go right has fallen into place for Andy so far and what if it’s Brian Hoyer.”
Conclusion 52:02
- The episode concludes with a reminder of upcoming matchups and fantasy discussions in the next two days.
- The hosts bid farewell to the listeners.
“That’ll do it for today’s episode starts tomorrow matchups the next two days. Fantasy face off on a whole lot more. We’ll talk to you then. Good bye. Good bye.”

Comments
I would argue that eliminated teams picking up players (for no reason besides watching the world burn) is equivalent to them dropping all of their good players. Even if its not suggested pre-season as a rule, it should ALWAYS be a rule.
Love the podcast.
