If your fantasy roster is in shambles, you’re not alone. Last week was a massacre for WRs: Puka Nacua, Garrett Wilson, Emeka Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr… all gone in one swoop. But hey, it’s not all bad news. The return of CeeDee Lamb, Rashee Rice, possibly Mike Evans and George Kittle is a ray of hope. If you’ve been stashing those guys on your bench or IR, this is your week to breathe again, finally. And if you’re still scraping the waiver wire for answers or rostering “Nasty Boys,” don’t panic. I’ve got you. I’m breaking down the most-searched Start/Sit decisions from the FootClan using Fantasy Footballers’ Start/Sit tool heading into Week 7. Let’s get it!

Justin Fields or Sam Darnold?

Fields or Darnold

Last week, if you started Fields, you don’t feel confident rolling with him into Week 7. I get it. Nine completions for 45 yards and nine sacks for minus 55 yards. That’s a -10 net total. That’s historically bad. Losing Garrett Wilson midgame to injury doesn’t help either. But there is a glimmer of hope. Although Carolina ranks 13th in points allowed to QBs (16.9 FPPG), over the past three weeks, they’ve surrendered 22+ to Dak, Tua, and Drake Maye. The matchup’s softer than it looks on paper. Mason Taylor emerges as Field’s go-to target with Wilson sidelined this week. That’s more good news for Fields. The Panthers rank dead last versus TEs. Fields himself says he plans to “be a little more aggressive” in the passing game. If he follows through, we could see a bounce-back outing from fantasy’s ultimate boom/bust QB. Fields is a high-risk, medium-reward streamer. You’re banking on his rushing production and production from a rookie TE. Andy and Jason have him QB12 on the week, Mike’s all the way down at 21. That spread perfectly sums up the Fields experience.

Meanwhile, Sam Darnold‘s been quietly cooking over the last month, and no one is really talking about it. Bet you didn’t know he’s 3rd in passing yards and 1st in yards per attempt. I’ll admit, I was out on Darnold heading into the season, but the production has been there, and he LOOKS great. He finished QB9 against the Jags last week and QB1 against the Bucs the week before. But this week’s a different story. The Seahawks take on Houston on Monday Night Football, and the Texans have been lights out against QBs. They’re allowing just 10.4 FPPG, which is the fewest in the league. No QB has cracked double digits against them since Week 2, and they are coming off a bye, healthier and more prepared than ever.

Verdict: I don’t love the matchup for Sam Darnold, but it’s hard to ignore how well he’s been playing lately. Justin Fields has the better matchup, but he’s coming off a brutal Week 6 and will be without his top target, Garrett Wilson. This one’s close. If you’re projected to win or just need steady points, roll with Sam Darnold. He’s definitely the safer play. If you’re the underdog and need to chase upside, Fields is your swing-for-the-fences play. Just know the range of outcomes includes a complete bust performance without his WR1. If he busts, and you were in a close matchup, you’re going to wish you went Darnold.

Jordan Mason or Kimani Vidal?

Mason or Vidal

The Vikings get a home matchup against Philly this week, a matchup they can exploit on the ground. The Eagles’ run defense has been looking rough lately, ranking 25th against RBs and giving up 23.4 FPPG. Last week, they got absolutely cooked by Cam Skattebo, who ran for 98 yards and three TDs. Mason’s opportunity here is straight gold. With the workload he’s been getting and how bad Philly’s looked up front, it’s easy to see why Mike’s rolling with Mason as his RB Start of the Week.

If you grabbed Kimani Vidal off waivers instead of Hassan Haskins last week… congrats, you nailed it. Vidal handled 72% of the team’s designed runs, ran routes on 54% of dropbacks, and turned in an elite 18.4 Expected Fantasy Points (per Marvin Elequin’sExpected Points & Opportunity: Week 7“). He had 18 carries, 124 yards, plus three catches for 14 yards and a score, finishing as the RB8 on the week. Ok, it was against the Miami Dolphins run defense, which is the worst in the league. However, Haskins looked invisible with his opportunity while Vidal showed out. Vidal clearly earned the lead role in my eyes. This week’s matchup won’t be as easy. The Colts rank 8th against opposing RBs, giving up just 16.6 FPPG. However, Vidal’s receiving work is definitely promising, especially with Quinton Johnson out. Oh, and Vegas set the total at 48.5… that’s the kind of game script we like.

Verdict: Another close one, but I’m siding with Mike and rolling with Jordan Mason this week. The Eagles’ run defense has been getting gashed lately, and nobody is eating into Mason’s workload right now. As good as Vidal looked last week, that Miami matchup may have contributed more to it than we’d like. Philly’s defense is giving up 6.8 more FPPG to RBs than the Colts, so I’ll take the RB with the softer matchup and locked-in volume.

Elic Ayomanor or Malik Washington?

Ayomanor or Washington

With Calvin Ridley sidelined, rookie Elic Ayomanor finally gets a real shot to step up as the Titans’ top target. The matchup is sneaky good. New England ranks 20th against opposing WRs, giving up 28.1 fantasy points per game. Ayomanor hasn’t shown much lately (just 27 and 18 yards in his last two games), but opportunity is everything in fantasy. If Ridley’s out, Ayomanor should see WR2-type usage as one of Tennessee’s only real playmakers on the outside.

Malik Washington travels to Cleveland in a game that is shaping up to be an absolute weather bowl. Forecasts are calling for rain, 50–60 mph wind gusts, and sloppy field conditions in Cleveland. That’s not the kind of game you want for Tua. The Browns rank 17th against opposing WRs, allowing 27.9 fantasy points per game, but that won’t matter much if the Dolphins can’t throw the ball. Washington truthers were hoping he’d see a bump after Tyreek Hill went on IR, but that boost just hasn’t come. His snaps and targets have stayed flat, making him a risky play in brutal conditions.

Verdict: Easily Ayomanor. Between the weather and his stagnant role, Washington’s a risky start this week. You’re better off keeping him on the bench and avoiding the chaos.

Cade Otton or Harold Fannin Jr?

Otton or Fannin Jr.

The Buccaneers are limping into Week 7, and Cade Otton suddenly finds himself as one of the last men standing in this offense. With Mike Evans and Chris Godwin battling injuries, and rookie WR Emeka Egbuka banged up last week, Otton stepped up, logging a 100% snap share and leading the team in both targets (6) and receptions (5) against the 49ers. Tampa Bay heads to Detroit in what Vegas pegged at a 52.5-point total, one of the highest of the week. The Lions rank 16th versus opposing TEs, allowing 10.8 fantasy points per game, and have been inconsistent defending the middle of the Field. They have, however, given up the fourth-most passing TDs this year, per Chris Cash’s Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 7 Matchups to Consider. If Baker Mayfield can keep the offense moving, Otton has a real shot to find the end zone.

Harold Fannin Jr. also gets a production bump, with David Njoku nursing a knee injury. He’s stepped up and made the most of his opportunity, hauling in 7-of-10 targets for 81 yards last week and finishing as the TE8. Now he gets a prime matchup against the Dolphins, who have been shredded by TEs all year. They rank 27th in fantasy points allowed to TEs (12.5 FPPG). The only potential hiccup? Weather. Forecasts in Cleveland call for heavy rain and strong winds, which could turn this into a ground-heavy game. Quinshon Judkins‘ rushing props have steadily climbed, and for good reason. Mike’s still has Fannin as his TE Start of the Week.

Verdict: The weather alone makes me lean toward Cade Otton over Fannin this week. It’s tough to trust a rookie QB in a game expecting 60 mph wind gusts, honestly, it’s tough to trust ANY QB in that kind of chaos. That one could turn into a sloppy mess fast. Meanwhile, the Bucs-Lions matchup has one of the higher totals of the week, and with Otton’s role solidifying, he’s got a great shot to repeat last week’s production.
