Snap Count Observations: Transactions to Make for Week 8 (Fantasy Football)
Chicago Bears
Colston Loveland 67%; Cole Kmet 41%
Colston Loveland saw a big uptick in snaps after largely being unused for most of the season (average less than 50% of snaps). His stat line isn’t particularly impressive (4/3/24), but the playing time is notable. The Bears ran the ball a ton against a clearly inferior Saints team (36 runs to 26 passes), so don’t read too much into a mediocre stat line. This is a top-10 pick who is finally seeing meaningful playing time.
Conclusion: Colston Loveland is a sneaky pickup after a mediocre performance.
Washington Commanders
Jaylin Lane 69%; Chris Moore 79%; Robbie Chosen 49%
The Commanders are beat up – neither starting WR was available and Jayden Daniels continues to get banged up. That makes any Commander a less-than-ideal start, even at RB where JCM has established himself as the clear backfield leader. Without McLaurin and Deebo, the top receiving options for Washington are Chris Moore and Jaylin Lane (with Robbie Chosen (aka Chosen Anderson, aka Robbie Anderson, aka probably another pseudonym I forgot) mixed in). Neither WR was inspiring, which is particularly notable considering that Washington was losing the entire game against Dallas. Lane saw more targets, so I guess pick him if you are desperate.
Conclusion: Look elsewhere for WR help, as Washington’s offense looks rough at the moment.
New York Giants
Theo Johnson 88%; Daniel Bellinger 68%
The Giants ran a ton of two-TE sets this week, which may have been intentional because Denver has an excellent secondary and because the Giants are very thin at WR (no Nabers or Slayton). Theo Johnson had the big statline, but a lot of that receiving production came on a fluke play where he caught a deflection and took it to the house.
NO WAY! Off the deflection! Theo Johnson in for the TD! One of the craziest TD's you'll see! pic.twitter.com/HyV5mcARgB

That was a pass intended for Wan’Dale Robinson, so perhaps we should write off the TD and the 41 extra receiving yards. Still, he saw seven targets, so he is worth your attention.
Bellinger was perhaps the better receiver in the game turning four targets into 88 yards and a TD, but he is on the field less.
The point is these TEs are playing quite a bit, there isn’t a ton of target competition in the WR ranks, these TEs have a little bit of talent, and Jaxson Dart looks like a dude.
Conclusion: Theo Johnson is a player you could start in a pinch given his playing time and target share.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Travis Hunter 87% on offense; 20% on defense
Travis Hunter played quite a bit more on offense than normal (67% season average), and less on defense (36% season average). The injury to Brian Thomas may have contributed, as well as gamescript considering the Jags were down 14 or more basically the entire game.
He is a really good WR (14/8/101/1), and this is two good weeks in a row. I don’t know what the Jags will do with his defensive snaps, but if he can get on the field for 80% of the offensive snaps, he becomes a really interesting fantasy option. His skill is undeniable, he just needs to be on the field enough to justify a start.
Conclusion: Travis Hunter might be playing more offensive snaps, which would really move him up the rankings.
Kansas City Chiefs
Rashee Rice 41%
An injury and a suspensive did nothing to slow down Rashee Rice‘s production, as he immediately scored two TDs. He instantly stepped into a 29% target share. And the crazy thing is he didn’t even play very much. They clearly are ramping him up because 41% is far below his career average. Hard to believe, but this can only go up from here.
Conclusion: If you drafted Rashee Rice, it looks like a great decision.
Carolina Panthers
Rico Dowdle 46%; Chuba Hubbard 56%
After several weeks of Rico dominance, the Panthers opted for essentially a 50-50 split in playing time. Rico saw more carries (17 to Chuba’s 14), and Rico was more effective (79 yards to 31). I don’t love the split, considering how much better Rico looks right now. The “hot hand” rule should probably apply, but the Panthers clearly have an affinity to Chuba, and he has earned that. Plus, coming off an injury, it isn’t shocking to see a slightly slow start, so I would guess better days are ahead for Chbba.
The problem is that both RBs will probably continue to share pretty equally, which makes this a less-than-ideal situation when you consider starts and sits. You probably can and should start both, but this offensive isn’t the high upside that other two-RB backfields are (e.g., Detroit).
Conclusion: It looks like a 50-50 split in Carolina, which caps the ceiling on both Dowdle and Hubbard.
Los Angeles Chargers
Oronde Gadsden 79%
Welcome to the world of startable TEs, Oronde Gadsden!
Gadsden had a huge day (9/7/164/1), and his playing time justifies serious consideration in any starting lineup. This is now two straight weeks of 7 or more targets, and the Chargers look like they will need to pass a lot without Omarion Hampton.
Conclusion: This guy looks like a priority add and someone who should be in your starting lineup.
