Another week, another slew of star injuries, as Puka Nacua, Emeka Egbuka, and Garrett Wilson all went down with multi-week injuries. We also have flex-level players like Calvin Ridley, Jauan Jennings, Marvin Harrison Jr., DJ Moore, and David Njoku dealing with ailments. It’s that time of year, people!

We are officially one-third of the way through this NFL season, and we’re starting to get an idea of who’s for real and who is just a flash in the pan. The rookies typically take a bit longer to get settled into the NFL offenses, so I’m going to be extra patient with them, as I would encourage you to be. As for everyone else, we’ve got a lot of play on tape that we can use to determine who we should be chasing in the trade market.

Let’s take a look at some “trade for” and “trade away” candidates heading into Week 7.

Players to Trade For

Tyjae Spears

The Titans just fired Head Coach Brian Callahan, as the team leadership just isn’t seeing any signs that things will eventually get better for the Two-Toned Blue. I think we all expected a rebuilding season, but we’d like to see more consistent growth for Cam Ward and the receiving room. Thus far, it has been very up-and-down from one week to the next, and that doesn’t inspire confidence that things are on the right track.

Enter Tyjae Spears, fresh off an IR stint, and ready to provide a spark and give fans something to cheer for. In his second game back, Spears played 59% of the snaps and had nine total opportunities (five rushes and four targets). He averaged 6.2 YPC in his five carries, compared to 3.4 YPC by backfield mate, Tony Pollard. Spears out-targeted Pollard four to two as well, signifying his return to the passing-down back duties. This is an interesting backfield because neither back really profiles as an early-down bruiser. I think the Titans would like to use them interchangeably, but Spears’ spark is undeniable.

I don’t expect Pollard to lose his workload entirely, as he should continue to see 10-15 touches per game. But I believe the team needs to let their young guys develop, and Spears is a full four years younger than Pollard. If he is in contention for lead-back duties next year, we need to find out sooner rather than later.  I think this could shift to more of a 50/50 split, and possibly move in Spears’ favor toward the end of the season. Spears finally received >50% snap share in his last three games of the 2024 season, and he scored 27.20, 21.60, and 13.30 PPR points in those games. As a Titans fan, I’d love to see him unleashed.

Tre Tucker

It’s not the sexiest name out there, but Tre Tucker has quietly put together a really nice campaign this season. Of course, everyone saw his Week 3 explosion of 8/145/3 TDs and chalked it up to a fluky performance (as we should have). But Tucker is leading the team in targets (11) over the last two weeks as well, and he has been a consistent chain-mover for Geno Smith while Brock Bowers has been sidelined with a knee injury. He is currently the best deep threat on the team as well, with long catches of 37 and 33 yards in his last two games, respectively.

Beyond the box score, my ears are perking up over Jakobi Meyers’ dissatisfaction in Las Vegas. I believe he is a trade-away candidate in the real NFL (the Steelers recently expressed an open desire to add to their WR room…), and if he leaves Vegas, there’s no real #1 WR remaining on the team. I think we could see Tucker step up and compete with rookies Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr. to fill that role.

As a sidebar, Jack Bech profiles as the future Jakobi Meyers replacement, so I wouldn’t mind stashing him from the waiver wire if you have an open roster spot as well.

Tee Higgins

It’s been a rough start for the Bengals’ playmakers. A few weeks ago, I mentioned going after Chase with the hopes of a trade for a more serious QB. This week, Joe Flacco came in and peppered Chase and Higgins with catchable targets, and we liked what we saw. Admittedly, I was hoping for someone better than Flacco, but he is still an upgrade over Jake Browning, and one game in, I’m feeling slightly more confident in this offense.

Heading into the year, “MEAT” Higgins was a real breakout candidate after finishing 2024 as a top-5 WR in PPG. Obviously, the Burrow injury turned everything in Cincinnati upside-down. But Higgins had a season-high in catches (5) this week and commanded a strong eight targets (20% target share) against Green Bay. If Flacco can continue to throw catchable passes to his top playmakers, I believe Higgins can turn his season around and finish back in the WR2 conversation. If another manager wants to capitalize on the good vibes of having Flacco in town, I’d pay up for Higgins. Since he hasn’t had a real breakout game this year, you should still be able to get him far cheaper than his value on draft day.

Players to Trade Away

Tony Pollard

If I’m putting my money on Tyjae Spears getting more work in the Titans’ backfield, I guess I should recommend moving off of Tony Pollard as well. Pollard has been a flex-level RB this year, but he has been (mostly) consistent. He saw 15+ opportunities in each of the first five games, and he has been an RB2 / fringe RB3 in every game so far. But this week marked a substantial drop in snap share: Pollard averaged 89% snap share in the first four weeks of the season, and he had a 43% snap share this week! The Titans have wanted this backfield to be a 1A/1B type of situation, but game script will dictate that Spears (the more dynamic pass catcher at this point) should see the field more than Pollard moving forward.

I’m trading Pollard to a team lacking depth who is about to be in the thick of bye weeks, and I’m looking for a high-upside player in return. Maybe this is where you target a rookie who hasn’t totally broken out yet (TreVeyon Henderson, Luther Burden, RJ Harvey, etc.). If Pollard is your depth, then hang on until you make it out of your bye weeks. But if you can afford to part with him, I’m ready to do so.

Jameson Williams

Count me as one of the Williams truthers this offseason; I thought the guy was poised for a breakout campaign this year. His 2024 metrics told me that he could be a superstar with just a bit more target opportunity. But 2025 has been more of the same inconsistency that drives a fantasy manager crazy.

Williams has played over 80% of the snaps every game this season, but his targets are all over the place. In the last three weeks alone, he sandwiched an eight-target game and a seven-target game around a ONE-target game. I think there has to come a point when you just let go of your priors about a player and believe what’s actually happening on the field. And ideally, you can capitalize on the good week he just had and turn him into a more consistent player. Jamo will have other strong weeks this year, but good luck predicting when they will occur. Count me out.

Omarion Hampton (situational)

I know, I know, he’s on IR! Assuming you play in a league with IR slots, he is likely not costing you a full roster spot. But here’s something I have learned through my MANY years playing fantasy football: everyone thinks they are going to make the playoffs. The truth is that only half (or less!) of teams will make the playoffs, depending on your league format. And the only way to make it is to stack wins over the first 14ish weeks of the season. We are heading into Week 7, and the news from the Chargers is that Hampton will likely miss more than just the four weeks required of an IR stint. Is that six weeks? Seven weeks? Could the team make a splashy trade for someone like Breece Hall or Alvin Kamara? Could they possibly shut Hampton down if they fall out of playoff contention? We have no idea what will happen over the next 4-6 weeks. But we know that you need to win now.

So here’s the play. Find a team near the top of the standings in your league. Assure them that they will be in the playoffs (they already know it), and having Hampton in the playoffs could send their already-strong team to the championship. Get a usable player (or two!) now, and forget about Hampton. Because we never know what could happen in any given week of this violent game. If the playoffs started next week, there would be teams without Egbuka, Garrett Wilson, Puka, and/or CeeDee Lamb. The same thing can happen in Week 15! Saving Hampton for the playoffs won’t matter if you don’t get into the playoffs in the first place. Get some wins while you can, and live to fight another day.

Hit me up!

Thanks to those who are sending trade opportunities this week! I’m getting a lot of fresh faces on X, and I’m loving the interaction. Hit me up with any trades you’re thinking of (@kempertrull), and also let me know about some of your favorite recently-completed trades! Thanks to everyone for the feedback and conversation!

Paul says:

I traded Omarion for Jacory and Pearsall. What do you think?

14-team, 0.5 ppr, 3 WR

Kemper Trull says:

I love this move! Exactly what I’m talking about. This is really solid depth in a 14-teamer, and even though JCM disappointed this week, he’s still seeing the bulk of the work.

Kyle says:

Are you worried at all about Quentin Johnston’s role in the offense now that it seems as though Ladd is getting a bigger role? Would he be a trade away candidate?

Kemper Trull says:

He could def be a trade away candidate. I’ve landed on “this is not a true fluke” with regards to his production, but I do think defenses are adjusting. And if you cover all three WRs the same, Ladd and Keenan are going to eat you up. They are easily the better route runners and have better hands.

Fecker says:

I could use some rb help…realistically who do you think I could flip Jameson for in a redraft league ?

Kemper Trull says:

Great question, and every league will be different. I’d personally target Tee Higgins or Xavier Worthy as a starting point for WR. If you need RB help, the Rookies might be attainable (TreVeyon, RJ Harvey, etc). The Ballers’ new ROS Rankings tool could be useful here as well! https://www.thefantasyfootballers.com/footclan/rest-of-season-rankings/?position=WR
