Time again for the weekly writer’s GPP salary friendly picks. Hopefully by now if you’ve been following this article, as well as all of the other great DFS content being published each week, then you’ve had some success and cashed in on a few outstanding lineups. After all, if you played Nick and Brandon’s picks from last week, Sammie Coates and Brian Hoyer the you ended up with the #1 WR and #5 QB in FanDuel scoring while also leaving you with over 81% of your budget to fill out the rest of your roster as you saw fit. With that in mind, take a look at which players a few members of the writing staff are targeting this week because we expect them to outperform their costs.

WR Michael Thomas vs CAR, $5,400

Ben“Michael Thomas has the pleasure of catching passes from Drew Brees who is one of my favorite QB plays of the week. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones showed us just a few weeks ago what kind of ceiling is possible against this horrible Carolina Panthers secondary. Michael Thomas could benefit from a solid performance from Brees on Sunday. Before the bye, Thomas saw 20 targets in his last two games and scored a TD in both. There’s a chance he pulls a ‘Davante Adams’ as in the WR3 on the team ends up finishing as the WR1 in fantasy terms for just one week. Thomas’ floor hasn’t been as scary as you might think either. His lowest score on FanDuel so far this year was 7.6 points back in Week 2.”
Ben Cummins, @BenCumminsFF

RB Giovani Bernard @ NE, $5,700

brandon“After what seems to be a chest injury that Jeremy Hill has sustained, Gio should have a bigger role, and can do it all as he did last week. He can run and catch out of the backfield which is great for FanDuel scoring. Even with Hill returning to practice, Gio should get the majority of the workload this week, so great price for a true RB1 this weekend.”
Brandon Sanders, @brandontsanders

QB Alex Smith @ OAK, $6,800

Eric“Alex Smith is not a great QB. I feel a little sick every time I like him a little. I’m positively queasy right now. Smith has a matchup against an Oakland defense who has given up FOUR top-5 fantasy weeks to QBs in only five weeks. Only Marcus Mariota managed a poor game and even he threw it 33 times. After a bye week, Smith gets the next crack at the leaky Oakland D. I like Jeremy Maclin too, but I can’t say that here.”
Eric Ludwig, @FF_Gouge

QB Brian Hoyer vs JAX, $7,000

Nick“Since taking over the starting job in Week 3, Hoyer the Destroyer has been the third highest scoring fantasy quarterback. He has at least 300 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions in each of those 3 starts. This week he’s back at home against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that gives up the 7th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Through 4 games, the Jaguars have allowed 8 passing touchdowns while only forcing 3 interceptions. Vegas has this game tied for the second highest scoring game of the week. With the emergence of Jordan Howard and Cameron Meredith, I like Hoyer to continue his streak and be a great, cheap option this week.”
Nick Martinez-Esquibel, @THENickMartinez

RB James White vs CIN, $5700

TravisI can almost hear the voice of public opinion saying “but….but Travis, LeGarrette Blount has been really good this year”. The truth is, he has. However, you can pretty well take whatever data you have from analyzing the Patriots offense for the first 4 weeks and throw it out of the window now that Brady is back. This is an offense that that averaged  28.5 pass attempts per game in the first 4 weeks. In Week 5 that number jumped to 40. That same quick strike, short pass, “running through the air” scheme that made Dion Lewis an RB1 until his injury and James White a solid weekly flex with upside after Lewis went down is back in action.
