I’ve recently discussed my thoughts about cash formats and about how the game we play is different than what it was 4-5 years ago.

With so much content, optimizers, and group think, you are trying to decipher what everyone else is doing to inform some of the harder 2v2 and 1v1 decisions each week.

The cash slate for Week 10 was no different but there were a few obvious plays that I think could make the difference.

The goal of this article is neither to boast nor wallow in “shoulda, woulda, couldas” but rather give a transparent look at my thought process for the week. Hopefully, this will help DFS & Betting Podcast listeners and DFS Pass subscribers get a deeper window into the ups and downs of playing DFS and help you in your selections each week. On Tuesdays, Betz and I review our cash lineups, and this week we’ll give some common overreactions we see and hear.

For cash, I specifically play 50/50s, Double-Ups, and H2Hs on DraftKings. I’ll share my unfiltered gut reaction, and the thought process behind this lineup construction, and at the bottom, I will post my weekly results including the cash line and H2H record to stay accountable with you.

If you want to go back to the drawing board, we did an overview podcast before the season on DFS Cash Game Strategy + Creating Player Pools. I also published an article on DFS Strategy for Beginners and another entitled: How to Approach Each Position in DFS & Gain an Edge.

Week 10 Cash Lineup

Draft % and cash lines each week will be from DraftKings’ $10 Single-Entry Double-Up with roughly 5,000 entries. This is a slightly elevated price point from the $1 and $5 double-ups and I think gives a solid idea each week of double-up roster percentages.

The Thought Process

Cash Locks (In My Opinion)

  • In our Week 10 DFS Best Plays (which comes out on Saturdays for DFS Pass subscribers only), I shared the pool of players and this week was blatantly obvious who the top plays were.
  • I could not fathom De’Von Achane not being locked into my lineup. Ok, using a double negative is not best practice. In Best Plays, “the easiest click for me this week is De’Von Achane. The floor this season has been unmatched hitting 16+ DK points in 8 of his 9 contests. His weighted opportunities per game is second only to CMC on this slate and yet the pricing difference (-$1600!) makes a huge difference. The Bills defense is a certifiable run funnel and Achane can certainly take advantage of it at home.
  • Rico Dowdle was the concession of the week. You knew the field was going to play him at an absurd rate. I did make the case of going underweight Rico “Two Pumps” in GPPs in my Tournament Takes article.
  • Trey McBride was the other lock for me. I compared him to WRs around the same price range and he was far and away the best. I was shocked the field played him at less than 30% considering his role. The decision to FLEX McBride ultimately is what allowed me to cash this week.

Gut-Wrenching Decisions

My goal in this section is to discuss the pool of players I considered for cash and how I arrived at my final lineup.

  • At QB, I really only looked at two QBs this week: Josh Allen or Jaxson Dart. Dart’s ability on the ground made him my early favorite but then I came to a moment in the week: am I really going to pass up Allen at $7K?

  • With the two RBs locked in, I did play around with 3RB constructions with CMC ($9000), TreVeyon Henderson ($5600), and even David Montgomery ($5000). I figured the field was not going to play CMC at the rate that would affect me this week.
  • The three “stud WRs” (JSN, Puka, and Amon_Ra) were all in the afternoon window and I was so worried I was going to pick the wrong one. It ended up being irrelevant note as all three scored around the same amount. I chose Puka, who was listed off the injury report in a game environment I thought had the chance to be a back-and-forth affair. I also deduced that he might be played at a much lower rate than JSN.
  • The other WRs in my pool were Zay Flowers ($5900), Jauan Jennings ($4600), Tez Johnson ($4500), and Darius Slayton ($4300). I wanted at least one 49er to correlate with Puka so Jennings fit the right match of salary and perceived roster percentage to eat into. The $4K guys both were intriguing but thinner plays in my mind as go-route guys. I ended up playing those two in tournaments a ton.
  • At TE, McBride was a lock but I knew I wanted to at least consider one of the cheaper guys. A TE in the mid $3K range has a much better projection than many of the dart throws at the WR position. Hunter Henry was my TE2 on the slate and I also figured he would be the most popular TE. By grabbing Henry AND McBride, the thought was buying into the field instead of an either-or approach. It would allow me to get weird at my final WR3 spot.
  • At DST, I shuffled through JAX, CLE, and HOU all week long. I ended up going with the cheapest option to save money and was fortunate to run into a double-digit performance.
  • Let’s address the elephant in the room. You might be saying, “Wait, you ended up with Rashod Bateman? How did that happen Kyle?” Ok, I will admit that pick seems a bit off but let me share how I go there. When I knew I had to have Puka and Trey McBride in my lineup, I ran into a pricing issue. I was left finding a WR under $4K. Yikes. None of them were showing up in our Best Plays and the only guys in that range I had talked about all week were Rashod Bateman and… Jerry Jeudy. Yeah, I mentioned Jeudy on Tuesday’s podcast as someone who stood out from a targets per $ standpoint. But honestly, the thought of clicking the button for a Browns player made me queasy. Maybe it was the public embarassment. Maybe it was considering how bad Jeudy had been all year long. Instead of cash (where I share my lineup publicly), I could hide Jeudy in someone tourney lineups. Yep, that’s what I did!
  • I loved Bateman’s route participation, the dome game environment, and the fact the Vikings were dead last in explosive pass play rate allowed. Was it a wild haymaker? Sure. But it built in some perceived upside into my lineup as a WR attached to Lamar Jackson. It also presented perceived leverage on Zay Flowers lineups, whom I knew would be semi-popular. Notice all the perception thee. Maybe you don’t factor all of that into a cash lineup but my build also gave me the ability to get different. I was chalky at RB, TE, and DST and the Puka + McBride in the FLEX did give me a unique construction. I kinda liked that approach. Was it the most ideal? No. But I cannot play someone else’s lineup in DFS and walk away feeling good.

Mistakes Were Made …

Every week I’ll highlight my biggest mistakes which range from not weighing low-end outcomes to assuming, to not thinking, and ultimately moving away from plays I started with. We’ve all been there… stay water. Don’t try to justify yourself or make things sound better than they were. You made a decision, now deal with it.

  • Yes, the Rashod Bateman dart looks silly in hindsight. He was tackled at the one-yard line (with a hip drop tackle!) and had another end zone target off his fingers. The usage was fine but for cash purposes, it was probably a bit irresponsible to play him over Jerry Jeudy.
  • Also, not questioning Hunter Henry was probably not the best process.

What Did the Field Do

My goal in this section is to discuss the pool of players used the most in cash style contests. You can compare the roster percentage, DK outputs, and how much of their salary they X’ed this week.

2025 Results

Each week I’ll post my head-to-head (H2H) win percentage here to give you an idea of what type of week I had. Keep in mind there are varying price points, competition, and players who take my H2Hs in the lobby that have no rhyme or reason. The volume of my H2Hs differs each week due to my feeling of the slate and my weekend activities with my family. Every week I will also post the “cash line” from the $10 Double-Up from DraftKings.

Week Cash Line DK Pts H2H Win% Note
1 115.38 105.42 5% Chase Pay Up Flop
2 136.26 126.50 45%
Late Swap Forgetfulness
3 150.26 151.88 56% CMC + TMcB FTW!
4 163.92 174.02 92% Puka or Die
5 178.62 174.32 41% NeverJamoAgain
6 Beach Life
7 159.74 158.74 38% Broncos Hysteria
8 108.58 112.48 Tyler Johnson lol
9 171.54 175.44 81%
PWash Comes Through
10 162.08 166.24 60% TMcB Power

It ended up a solid week above the cash line in Double-Ups. I can thank Trey McBride for being the afternoon hammer I needed.
