Fantasy Football Target Trends for Week 14
Welcome to the target trends article for Week 14! As we near the fantasy playoffs, target trends are more important than ever. As usual, this article will start with the overall target trends for the season.
Target Trends
Keenan Allen continues to lead the league with 138 targets, though he failed to hit double-digit targets for the first time since Week 9. Tyreek Hill and Michael Pittman Jr. are tied for second with 127 targets. Hill’s seven targets against Washington were his lowest total since Week 4, but that didn’t negatively affect his fantasy output. As for Pitty City, you can read more about him below.
T.J. Hockenson was on bye in Week 13 but maintained his target lead among tight ends. He’s still the only one at the position with 100+ targets. Travis Kelce comes in second with 93, while Evan Engram is up to 91 and is no longer the league’s most-targeted player without a touchdown after he finally found the end zone Monday night.
Alvin Kamara also continues to lead all running backs with 69 targets. It doesn’t seem like Christian McCaffrey is too far behind at 62, but his 5.2 targets/game is significantly lower than Kamara’s 7.7. No other running back has reached 60 targets yet.
I’ll continue leading off this article with season-long target leaders, but for now, let’s check out this week’s target trends heading into Week 14.
CeeDee Lamb – 17 targets, 12 rec
CeeDee’s dominant stretch continued with a new career-high in targets against the Seahawks Thursday night. He averaged 7.0 targets/game over the first six weeks of the season before the Cowboy’s Week 7 bye. Since then, he’s averaging 13.2 targets/game over the last six. He’s now the WR2 on the season, trailing only Tyreek Hill.
Michael Pittman Jr. – 16 targets, 11 rec
It’s shaping up to be a career season for Pittman in his contract year. He’s seen double-digit targets in 9 of 12 games and is on pace for 180 on the season. He’s become a true alpha receiver on the Colts, sporting a 31.5% team target share.
A.J. Brown – 13 targets, 8 rec
After averaging 10.7 targets/game over the first seven weeks of the season, Brown had been averaging just 7.5 over the last four, a stretch where he never topped ten targets in a game. He’s on pace for 167 targets on the season, which would top his previous career-best by over 20 targets. He has 31 more targets than his next closest teammate, DeVonta Smith, though Smith has seen one target than Brown over the last three weeks.
Nico Collins – 12 targets, 9 rec
Collins set another career-high with his 12 targets against the Broncos in Week 13. He’s on pace for 123 targets on the season, nearly as many as the 126 he saw over his first two seasons combined. The targets aren’t likely to slow down now that Houston has lost fellow wideout Tank Dell for the season.
Mike Evans – 12 targets, 7 rec
Chris Godwin – 3 targets, 0 rec
It feels like Evans makes this article every week, just like he tops 1,000 receiving yards every season. He’s seen double-digit targets in three of the last four weeks and six times total this season. Meanwhile, Godwin’s three targets are his lowest since Week 1 of 2022, when he was returning from his torn ACL.
DeAndre Hopkins – 12 targets, 7 rec
The Will Levis-led Titans aren’t a prolific passing offense, but at least we know that Hopkins is their top target. His 12 targets in Week 13 were his most since Week 1. They were also more than teammates Chig Okonkwo (5), Tyjae Spears (6), and Treylon Burks combined (0).
Elijah Moore – 12 targets, 4 rec
Joe Flacco made his season debut with the Browns and proceeded to attempt 44 passes, more than any other Cleveland quarterback this season. Moore was his preferred option, seeing a 29% team target share in the game. Moore and Flacco played together with the Jets, and that familiarity, along with Amari Cooper dealing with a concussion, could lead to a healthy target share for Moore.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba – 11 targets. 7 rec
Smith-Njigba, the first wide receiver selected in this year’s NFL Draft, cracked double-digit targets for the first time in Week 13. He still trailed both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in routes run, but it’s encouraging to see the ball go his way more frequently. JSN can’t be considered an auto-start while Metcalf and Lockett are healthy, but the increased volume is a great sign moving forward.
Jonathan Mingo – 10 targets, 6 rec
Mingo is another rookie hitting double-digit targets for the first time, which equated to his season-high in fantasy points. Now that Evan Engram has finally found the end zone, Mingo has the distinction as the league’s most-targeted player without a touchdown. His 67 targets on the season trail teammate Adam Thielen by 39, but Mingo has seen just one fewer target than Thielen over the last four weeks.
Rashee Rice – 9 targets, 8 rec
Rice has become Kansas City’s top target lately. He’s seen 19 targets, good for a 31% target share, over the last two weeks. That’s six more targets than Travis Kelce over that time. He’s yet to top a 70% snap rate this season, but he is starting to command targets when he is on the field.
Breece Hall – 8 targets, 6 rec
The Jets are completely broken on offense without a capable quarterback, but at least Hall is staying fantasy-relevant with dump-off passes. He’s averaging 6.5 targets/game since New York’s bye, but just 6.0 yards/target.
Sam LaPorta – 9 targets, 9 rec
Amon-Ra St. Brown – 6 targets, 2 rec
LaPorta could be headed for the best fantasy season we’ve ever seen from a rookie tight end. He’s on pace for 122 targets, which would fall just short of the 128 by Jeremy Shockey in 2002. However, thanks to his 74.4% catch rate, he’s on pace for 17 more receptions than Shockey. As for ARSB, his six targets against New Orleans were his lowest since Week 17 of last season.
Terry McLaurin – 3 targets, 0 rec
The nightmare fantasy season for McLaurin managers somehow got worse in Week 13. At least he was seeing volume, averaging 9.3 targets/game over the previous seven, even if it wasn’t turning into much production. He’s impossible to start in fantasy lineups after getting shutout on three targets against Miami.
