Pineiro has been battling an illness during Week 2 prep and thus is in danger of sitting out Sunday. Coach Kyle Shanahan told Matt Barrows of The Athletic on Friday that the 49ers will sign a kicker to the practice squad and then elevate him in the event Pineiro isn't able to play this weekend, but who that kicker may be isn't known.
