Last week, Andy, Mike, and Jason, concluded the early rankings shows for the 2017 season. While roles and offenses will certainly change depending on where incoming rookies land, it’s never too early to preview players and their fantasy expectations for the upcoming season. Here’s a quick summary of the rankings shows, with links to those shows, as well as current rankings at each position.

Running Backs

Early RB Rankings Part 1 – Ep. #364
Early RB Rankings Part 2 – Ep. #365

The big three of David Johnson, Le’Veon Bell, and Ezekiel Elliott are at the top of every scoring format. What’s interesting though, is that in Standard scoring, Andy, Mike, and Jason all have a different RB as their #1 guy. The next tier in the Ballers’ Preferred Scoring format, (Half PPR), has the usual suspects of LeSean McCoy, DeMarco Murray, Devonta Freeman, Melvin Gordon, and Jordan Howard. Todd Gurley is very polarizing being at #5 for Andy, #13 for Jason, and #17 for Mike. Be sure to listen in on the full episodes for an explanation for each player in the Footballers’ consensus RB Rankings 1-24.

Wide Receivers

Early WR Rankings Part 1 – Ep. #366
Early WR Rankings Part 2 – Ep. #367

Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr., and Julio Jones are up top. After that, it gets a little fuzzier depending on scoring format. Mike believes Jordy Nelson can do it again at the age of 32 with Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball. After all, he did finish #1 in Half PPR last season. Many will be surprised to see Mike Evans as the #5th consensus WR. It’s clearly not a knock on Evans’ talent but a knock on this target share, which is sure to go down with the addition of DeSean Jackson. The disagreements really start when you get past the Top 10 WRs.

Be sure to listen in on the full episodes for a discussion on each of the top 24 wideouts. Furthermore, you can get access to Matt Harmon’s Reception Perception data on the top 50 ranked wideouts, in the Ultimate Draft Kit.

Tight Ends

Early TE Rankings – Ep. #369

Even with the injury risk, all three Footballers have Rob Gronkowski at the top. Not only that but Jordan Reed is #2 in all scoring formats as well. When on the field, they provide such an advantage at the TE position, and Gronk’s current ADP is in the 2nd Round rather than the 1st, where he was being picked last year. The next tier of guys includes Travis Kelce, Greg Olsen, Tyler Eifert, and Jimmy Graham. TE is certainly a position that Andy, Mike, and Jason wouldn’t reach for. They each picked a sleeper TE on the podcast- Ladarius Green, Dennis Pitta, and Zach Miller. Also, at the top of the show for the ‘Quick Question of the Day,’ they explain the difference between streaming QBs and TEs.

Quarterbacks

Early Top 12 QB + Draft Predictions – Ep. #370
Early QB Rankings Part 2: Values, Sleepers & Streamers – Ep. #371

The streaming QB strategy was just mentioned, and it’s one that Andy, Mike, and Jason have advocated since they started the podcast. During the season, they give three streamer options each week- guys who you can scoop off the waiver wire and you can plug into your lineup that week based on matchup. While they wouldn’t take the top QBs at their ADP, they give us a detailed breakdown of them. Aaron Rodgers is the easy #1 guy. Andrew Luck, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Matt Ryan round out the top 5. It gets really interesting past the Top 10, when you get to the QBs who you can draft considerably later, that can end up being your weekly starter. Just take a look at these names that are ranked 13 and on… Blake Bortles (he’s finished as a QB1 two years in a row), Marcus Mariota, Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, Ben Roethlisberger, and many more. There are a number of late-round QB values. Be sure to get the detailed take on each by listening to the early QB rankings podcasts.
