Targets Per Route Run Report: Week 7 (Fantasy Football)
Every season gives you an opportunity to reset your priors on certain players, and I am here to tell you that Week 7 is the week to do it. We had some significant losses this week with Terry McLaurin, Davante Adams, and Jalen Hurts all going down with injury. On top of that, Cam Skattebo got benched, and there is this mysterious TE breakout that needs to be addressed. These situations make room for midseason breakouts and opportunities for you to capitalize down the stretch.
So let’s strap in and give it our best Dak Prescott “Heeeerrrrrreeee We Goooo.”
First Things First
If this is your first time with us this year, Welcome and howdy-do! If it applies, Bonjour! All the math and methodology is broken down here. You can follow the series to see how I qualify the data. The quick version is that you have to run a certain number of routes to qualify for this list.
Our weekly medians saw the TE median surpass 20% for the first time this season.
W1 — WR 19.7%, TE 16.7%, RB 16.7%
W2 — WR 20.0%, TE 15.8%, RB 18.2%
W3 — WR 19.2%, TE 18.2%, RB 20.0%
W4 — WR 18.2%, TE 17.6%, RB 18.5%
W5 — WR 18.2%, TE 18.2%, RB 20.0%
W6 — WR 19.4%, TE 20.4%, RB 16.7%
Is the 2026 TE Boom Real?
In recent weeks, the Ballers have discussed the merits of starting a TE in your flex spot. I have been playing fantasy football for over two decades, and I agree, the TE TPRR feels unusually high this year. This was worthy of investigation.
So I went back to the farthest Next Gen Stats would take me (2018) and explored. I qualified the data by requiring at least five games played and an average of 15 routes per game for WRs and 10 per game for TEs.
Here is what I found.

I was surprised to find that 2026 TE TPRR has remained fairly normal, even declining slightly from last season.
The story changed when I looked at the top-10 TE target earners and spotted something. Top-end TE resurgence. The 10 highest qualifying TEs averaged 23.6% TPRR in 2025. Through the first six weeks of 2026, the average has risen to 26.2%. This is not unprecedented – 2019 saw the top 10 TEs average a 28.1% TPRR – but with our fantasy football goldfish brains, that might as well be decades ago.
Some prominent 2026 target earners include:
- Isaiah Likely — 30.4%
- Trey McBride — 29.4%
- George Kittle — 28.3%
- Kenyon Sadiq — 27.3%
Note that Brock Bowers would slide right in there at #2 with 29.9%, but he did not meet the game threshold I set up for this. Dallas Goedert would also rank seventh at 26.9%, but he missed the five-game qualification threshold. The full TE chart is below.

USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect
The main takeaway is this: TEs as a whole are not suddenly earning more targets per route. The elite target earners are simply separating themselves from the rest of the pack.
This matters for fantasy managers because we cannot simply assume the rising tide is lifting every TE. The opportunity belongs to the players earning it, and that distinction can help us identify who is worth starting in our flex spots.
It has been a while since we have seen year after year of truly great TE play. This new crop of target earners may be bringing us back to the golden age of fantasy TEs, when we had Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Jason Witten, Greg Olsen, Dallas Clark, Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker, and Rule 86 himself, Jordan Reed.
Heat Check
This next segment is simply a way to identify players who have a great TPRR and those who do not. Each qualifying week is measured against its own positional median. Strong positive weeks move you up the Heat Check ranks, strong negative weeks move you down, neutral weeks move toward zero, and if a player misses the route threshold, their Heat Check tier holds steady.
STAY IN THE FLAMES!
We have ten new additions to this list as Stefon Diggs moved down a tier this week. Diggs still boasts an excellent TPRR, and with the injury to Terry McLaurin, I expect him to be back here next week. The thesis is still on for me.
For the newcomers to this list, it sure is nice to see Zay Flowers continue his absolutely elite season-long 33.6% TPRR. I think we were all concerned when Lamar Jackson went down and Tyler Huntley took over, but Zay kept humming along, earning 11 targets last week.
Welcome to the flames, Matthew Golden. His 28.2% season-long TPRR is excellent. The part that gets me excited is that when you compare his TPRR percentile to his Fantasy Points scored percentile, they are within five percentile points of each other. Golden is earning targets and scoring the fantasy points to match. I expect those numbers to remain in line, even with Josh Jacobs‘ potential return. Bask in this moment, Packers fans, and enjoy it.

He’s On Fire!
With the news of Jalen Hurts’ blood clots, we were left wondering about the Eagles offense. They were already floundering on offense for fantasy purposes, so naturally there were questions about DeVonta Smith and his connection with Tanner McKee. It is only one week, but the Eagles passed 48 times, and DeVonta had a whopping 42.4% TPRR and a TD. With Tanner McKee as the assumed starter rest of season, the Ballers have DeVonta ranked rest of season as a WR2, and I think his TPRR metrics should keep him there.

As seasons progress and offenses begin figuring themselves out, we start to see players emerge in unexpected places. This offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a murky WR room, and sometimes that carries over into the season. When a player in those situations starts off slowly, they can be forgotten as well. Brenton Strange had a slow start to the season, but over the last three weeks he has averaged a 31.6% TPRR. That is ahead of Brock Bowers and Trey McBride over the same stretch. I am not saying Strange belongs in that elite tier just yet, but his TPRR profile is starting to make a compelling case.

He’s Heating Up
There are a lot of guys we could highlight here, so I will make it snappy. Jalen Coker came back from injury and walked right into a 38.2% TPRR. Not to be outdone, with Caleb Williams coming back from injury, Luther Burden had a 44.4% TPRR. Lastly, Carnell Tate, while up and down as we often see for rookies, had a 35% TPRR this week. You love to see it.

The Refrigerators and Freezers
These guys tend to stay here, especially when they are hurt, underutilized, and traded. Nothing really actionable here outside of my personal surprise at seeing Antonio Williams not get an uptick with Terry McLaurin’s injury and Quentin Johnston being phased out of the offense.
I will be watching these players closely as their season-long TPRR will be slow to reflect any changes in their usage.
Also, a weekly reminder that RBs can be a little strange on this list. Chuba Hubbard has been awesome, and his TPRR is abysmal. And Sean Payton took over play-calling duties, and RJ Harvey had a great TPRR game? Coincidence?

Six weeks of data are in the books, and there are enough trends emerging that we need to be willing to change our minds. The draft is behind us. What matters now is who is earning opportunities and what we are going to do about it. So pay attention, reset your priors, and go win some FootClan Titles.
You can find some advanced TPRR graphs on my Twitter, and you can find me on the Ballers’ Discord throughout the week!
See ya next time!
