Targets Per Route Run Report: Week 6 (Fantasy Football)
Week 5 is in the books. This is where you start shining as a fantasy manager. The draft is behind us, and in-season tools like Strength of Schedule, Stream Finder, and Market Share are rounding into form. These tools only get stronger as the year progresses.
Not to be outdone, the TPRR report only gets stronger as the season progresses. If you are looking for a baseline for TPRR, check out the preview I wrote earlier this year. Today we have to account for injuries, missed games, byes, role changes, and trades. We are all looking at you, Marvin Harrison Jr. More on that later in the article.
TPRR Evolution
Here in Week 5, we have adjusted our Heat Check segment to use a tier system rather than simply counting consecutive games. Each player’s TPRR is judged against that week’s positional median. To climb the hot tiers, a player has to be five percentage points above the positional median. The inverse is true for the cold tiers. A missed game or failing to meet the route minimum does nothing, while a neutral week moves a player back toward neutral.
Week 5 produced no new highs or lows in the positional medians.
W1 — WR 19.7%, TE 16.7%, RB 16.7%
W2 — WR 20.0%, TE 15.8%, RB 18.2%
W3 — WR 19.2%, TE 18.2%, RB 20.0%
W4 — WR 18.2%, TE 17.6%, RB 18.5%
W5 — WR 18.2%, TE 18.2%, RB 20.0%
Finally, last week I introduced a new metric – TPRR vs Fantasy Points (FP) – that I improved this week. Instead of cumulative fantasy points in the formula, I am comparing TPRR percentile to fantasy points-per-qualifying-game percentile. This will account for route minimums being met, bye weeks, and injury weeks.
STAY IN THE FLAMES!
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Stefon Diggs, and Chris Olave. Initially, this list looks like the three-headed dragon meme.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has elite usage and elite fantasy production. JSN is inevitable. Chris Olave is a rising star and is finally earning and producing with consistency. Thank you, Kellen Moore, and thank you, 199 routes so far!
But then there is Stefon Diggs. He is familiar. He is old. He is on a shaky team. And yet, all figures point to Diggs being a buy now in redraft. His 94th-percentile TPRR and his 74th-percentile Fantasy Points reveal a mismatch between targets earned and points produced. With Jayden Daniels back, I think Diggs’ needle continues to point up, provided he returns healthy. I am not saying to trade Christian Watson for Diggs, but I would be making flex-tier offers for him.

He’s On Fire!
Remember, I have adjusted these lists not to avoid streaks, but to account for players being awesome when they play.
This comes as no surprise, but Puka Nacua is awesome. He has the highest TPRR of all WRs. He is earning fantasy points in the 99th percentile. He missed two weeks with an injury and did not miss a beat. Sometimes advanced metrics help you decipher something complicated. Other times, they scream what we already knew. And we know Puka is awesome when he is on the field.
I will continue to bang the drum for Malik Washington. His TPRR vs FP profile continues to impress. 84th-percentile TPRR and only 52nd-percentile fantasy points jump out.
Like this article, the argument for him is evolving. His TPRR has been excellent for three straight weeks. My thesis is that he is showing a buy-low profile. He is earning targets in this offense, and the fantasy points should catch up soon. I want him on my roster when it does.
My final player to note is my guy Keenan Allen. He boasts the 10th-highest TPRR among WRs with 28.2%. His TPRR vs FP delta is a 42.6-percentage-point gap. If he can stay healthy, we may see more points from Keenan.

He’s Heating Up!
I want to take a moment to highlight one guy here as a cautionary tale: RJ Harvey. He has a truly elite 36.7% TPRR, second among RBs. When he is on the field, he earns targets. At least he did with his old OC, Davis Webb, calling plays. With Sean Payton calling the shots, he moves down from the He’s On Fire tier.
TPRR does not tell the whole story with RBs. If anything, it asks more questions for us as fantasy managers. I still include them because it can be helpful to see how RBs are earning their points, but TPRR does not always translate into fantasy production at the position. Make sure you read other Fantasy Footballers articles like Aaron Larson’s Target Trends for Week 6 to get the full picture for RBs.

FROZEN SOLID + He’s Ice Cold! + He’s Cooling Off!
Not a lot has changed here.
Chuba Hubbard was on bye last week, but he remains the patron saint of “TPRR does not tell the whole story.” Also, see above comments about RJ Harvey and apply them in reverse here.
Last week, I broke up with Marvin Harrison Jr. He did not play last week, so nothing should change. Except now everything has changed. He is headed to the Houston Texans to reunite with his college QB, C.J. Stroud. I am still mad at MHJ and all the single-digit TPRR performances this year. Your guess is as good as mine as to how this plays out. I will say this: two of my favorite football minds had a little discussion about it on X this week, and when they are unsure, I am unsure. May the odds ever be in your favor.
