Waived by Washington

The Commanders waived Rodriguez on Tuesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

A 2023 sixth-round pick, Rodriguez saw a bigger role late last season and averaged 7.4 carries for 37.2 yards over a five-game stretch Weeks 11-16 before an ankle injury brought his rookie campaign to an early end. He came back healthy this spring, but the new coaching staff in Washington seemed to prefer 28-year-old Jeremy McNichols for the No. 3 RB role behind Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler. It won't be surprising if a team in need of a power runner claims the 224-pound Rodriguez off waivers.

Lining up in multiple roles

Strange said Thursday after the Jaguars' final mandatory minicamp practice that his second year in head coach Liam Coen's system feels "a lot less chaotic" despite being asked to line up in "a lot more positions," Garry Smits of the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union reports.

Added reps with fellow RB sidelined

With Chris Rodriguez recovering from a foot procedure, Tuten and LeQuint Allen took the majority of the Jaguars' running back reps during OTAs, as well as Tuesday's mandatory minicamp session, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports.

Bouncing back from foot procedure

Rodriguez, who underwent a procedure on his left foot following an injury he sustained earlier in the Jaguars' offseason program, is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.
