NFL Week 5 Weather Conditions (Fantasy Football)
Week 4 came and went without any significant weather impacts. We had some games with light rain and a few games with high heat indexes, but all in all, it wasn’t too bad. Now, can we expect the same thing for week 5? Well, spoilers, but no. Quick weather safety note! There are a couple of hurricanes that will either be making landfall or will have made landfall as you read this. If you are in the impacted areas, please take heed and listen to what local authorities put out for warnings. As someone who spent many a year and went through many hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, it is important to pay attention and stay safe.
What does the week ahead have in store for us? Find out below, dear reader!
It’s football time, baby!
Sunday Morning Game (London Game)
Philadelphia Eagles @ Jacksonville Jaguars
LOW impact. Two weeks in a row where the London game will have nice weather. How long will it last? Who knows. This week winds will be in the single digits, temperatures in the low-60s, with mostly cloudy skies. No issues; start everyone you normally would.
Sunday Early Afternoon Games
Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans
MEDIUM impact. Most of the impacts of Hurricane Isaias should be out of the area before Sunday afternoon. There is a slight chance of rain currently (sitting around 30%) with sustained winds in the high single digits and gusts to the low 20s. This game is entirely dependent on the track of the hurricane. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s. As it is now, there shouldn’t be too significant impacts, but check this game prior to kickoff.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Miami Dolphins
MEDIUM impact. There is a minor chance of rain and thunderstorms, but nothing too significant. It’s going to be a hot one in Miami, with temperatures in the low-90s and a heat index that hits the low 100s! As with other hot games that we have seen so far, expect an increase in the rotation of key players. Aside from the temperatures, no other impacts.
Las Vegas Raiders @ New England Patriots
LOW impact. As it is now, it looks like the remnants of Hurricane Isaias will not be in the area during the game. During the game, expect mostly cloudy skies and winds in the single digits. Temperatures will be in the low-60s. Another game to double-check Sunday morning, but as-is now, no reason to bench anyone.
Cleveland Browns @ New York Jets
MEDIUM impact. Expecting some rain to pop up after halftime, sitting around a 90% chance of occurrence right now. With sustained winds in the single digits with the occasional gust to the low-20s. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s. The rain doesn’t look to be too heavy, but more of an annoying and persistent type. Expect some impacts to the long passing game and to the kickers. Both teams will likely shift to short passes and the ground game after halftime.
Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers
MEDIUM impact. Rain and stronger winds will be persistent throughout this game. Wind speeds are expected to be sustained in the low teens with gusts up to the high-20s. Temperatures will be sitting in the high-60s. Downgrade all WRs, QBs, and Kickers this game. There will likely be a shift to RBs and the short passing game.
New York Giants @ Washington Commanders
MEDIUM impact. Another game impacted by rain and higher winds. Rain will start to move in around the second quarter, with sustained speeds in the mid-teens and gusts into the upper-20s. Very similar to other games in the Northeast, downgrade the passing game and expect more of a focus on short passing and the running game.
Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers
LOW impact. Sunny skies, light winds, temperatures in the upper-70s. Absolutely perfect conditions for the game. Congratulations to Green Bay for winning the “GOOD WEATHER GAME OF THE WEEK” award, especially before the entire ground freezes over in November.
Sunday Late Afternoon Games
San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
LOW impact. Expect a very nice afternoon in Seattle, with clear skies, light winds, and temperatures in the low-60s. Start all your usual players.
Best of luck to your team in the week ahead!
