Welcome to a brand new article for the 2025 DFS season! I get most of my action in cash games and small field tournaments for DFS, shying away from the large field lottos. In this article each week throughout the NFL season, I’ll recap my lineup for small field GPPs on DraftKings, highlighting my process and strategy. For the 2025 season, I’ll usually be playing in the $100 Single Entry Spy on DraftKings.

Week 6 Small Field GPP Lineup

The Thought Process

-We had an old school DFS slate on our hands with cash teams featuring a punt DST and a punt TE due to the fact that the slate was pretty tightly priced. That left DFS gamers with some uncomfortable decisions in cash and GPPs, alike. For cash games, there were roughly six RBs in play – Rico DowdleRachaad White, Javonte Wiliams, Josh Jacobs, Christian McCaffrey, and Jonathan Taylor. As per usual, I figured there would be a ton of roster percentage on that collective group, so I wanted to think carefully about which one(s) might get squeezed.

-With the cash builds featuring a lot of the value RBs (White, Rico, Javonte), I had a good sense JT might come in decently low rostered. As a 9.5-point favorite against Jacoby Brissett and the Cardinals, I thought he was a really good play if his ownership came in anywhere around 15%. Very happy to get him at a 18%. I correlated him with a low rostered Colts DST. Obviously, that didn’t really work out (Is Jacoby him?), but I still feel good about that unique combo in this tourney.

-From there, I knew I wanted to play one of Javonte or Rico, but I was hesitant about playing both given the associated roster percentages. Unfortunately, I chose wrong and got buried by Rico aka Marshall Faulk aka Emmitt Smith aka Barry Sanders. As you’ll see in the lineup, I had to get a bit off the board, especially with my Patriots/Saints stack not really getting there. Maye was, of course, awesome, but Shaheed and Diggs were duds.

-My original lineup had Tucker Kraft at TE and Rachaad White in FLEX. As I noted above, White was in the cash game pool, so I knew he’d be chalky. If my lineup got off to a good start and my contrarian pieces hit (Colts D, Shaheed), I was fully planning to stay with that duo. However, given how far behind I was, I knew I couldn’t play White, and I was a bit worried about Kraft’s roster percentage getting inflated in an awesome matchup with the Bengals.

-That led me to the mini game stack of Jauan Jennings, Emeka Egbuka and Cade Otton with the hopes that the game went off, but White failed. In other words, I swapped onto this combination for direct leverage off White. Obviously, that didn’t work out, but I thought Otton was particularly interesting as leverage with Michael Mayer being the punt dejour at just $3,100.

With the Benefit of Hindsight

-Despite a horrific result here, I do feel okay about my play this week; sometimes, it just doesn’t work out in GPPs, and that’s the reality of DFS. I was mindful of my cumulative pOwn, and I was able to mix in a combination of chalk and low rostered plays.

-I also feel good about my stack and my game stack with New Orleans and New England. Maye is just playing at an incredible level right now, and Shaheed at just 6.6% compared to 19.2% for Olave was what I was looking for here in a game I thought could go back and forth.

-If I had known Jennings was playing through fractured ribs and multiple ankle injuries, I would not have even considered him. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about injuries given my background, but it’s a friendly reminder that we’re on the outside looking in and never really know the whole story. C’mon Niners beat reporters, helps us out here!
