Every week the First Look article gives you a taste of the slate and some of the more intriguing salaries that DraftKings and FanDuel release. The goal is to identify early-week cash game considerations, as well as potential tournament plays before we piece together the stacking options. On Tuesdays, I share some of these insights on the Fantasy Footballers DFS & Betting Podcast if you want further commentary on some of the salary standouts.

Check back later in the week when Matthew Betz and I share our official DraftKings and FanDuel picks for cash and GPPs exclusively in the DFS Pass.

Here are the games for this week’s main slate* including team-implied totals (TIP) for each matchup.

Overview

For newcomers, the main slate for DFS includes the Sunday early (1:00 EST) and afternoon games (4:25 EST). At first glance, here are a couple of things to note:

  • Off the Main Slate: NE, NYJ, KC, ATL, JAX, BUF, WAS, CIN
  • Bye Week Teams: N/A
  • The lines have shifted in a number of games. I post the odds in our Slack channel on Monday afternoon just to see the line movement the next day. The Eagles (after losing on Monday night… eat it Betz!) were 2.5 point favorites on the road and now are 1-point underdogs in New Orleans. Makes sense.
  • The Rams/49ers matchup goes from one you circled on the calendar to one you look at and ask “so…. who is playing is in this game?” with CMC, Deebo, Puka, and Kupp all out. That’s just sad.
  • The slate is much more balanced this week after 10(!) games were in the early window last week. Two Monday night games and a fantasy friendly Sunday night game makes this slate feel even smaller.
  • There are some truly gross game environments condensing the overall best plays on this slate and games to stack. Keep that in mind as 3 games stand above the rest.

Quarterbacks

  • Lamar Jackson ($7500) and the Ravens somehow lost last week. I’m still trying to get my head around that outcome but he is the QB1 in pricing this week on the road in Dallas. Dak Prescott ($6600) is almost $1,000 cheaper on the other side at home as a slight underdog. The Ravens have quietly allowed the most passing yards in the NFL through two weeks as teams are throwing the ball at the 2nd highest rate (66.4%) against them. I like Dak a lot this week
  • Jalen Hurts ($7300) doesn’t quite look like himself as a complete QB and with A.J. Brown likely out again, it will be hard trusting Philadelphia on the road against a suddenly impressive Saints team. His rushing output on Monday night (13/85/1) was impressive but his 6.1 yards per attempt was pedestrian.
