Building winning GPP lineups, by definition, is tough. There are, however, some key things to look for when filling out your roster. First and foremost is ceiling, we want the players with the potential to score the most points. Next is leverage, we want the players that fall through the cracks. Finally, we have to build a lineup that tells a winning story through game script and stacking.

For a deeper dive into GPP strategy, make sure to check out the Tournament Strategy episode that Borg and Betz put out last season, and make sure to stay locked into the DFS and Betting Podcast.

A final note before diving into the picks. Don’t ignore the Cash Picks article put out by Matt Savoca. That’s especially important this week, as Matt outlines some subtle but important tweaks to FanDuel scoring. His article also pairs perfectly with my GPP picks article, as it’s typically a good idea to mix in some value plays, especially if they fit the GPP-winning story you write.

Quarterbacks

C.J. Stroud vs. IND – $8,500

Hopes are sky high for Stroud heading into his sophomore season with an upgraded offense in Houston, but there’s a good chance he goes overlooked as the second most expensive QB on the Week 1 slate. As of this writing, our optimizer is projecting Stroud to be rostered in fewer than 5% of lineups. The Texans are favored by three and have a team-implied total of 25.8 points in what Vegas believes will be a close game with the Colts. Three TDs are on the table with the potential for more if the points start flying at Lucas Oil Stadium.
