It’s Wednesday which means it’s time for the the 8th installment of what has become affectionately known as the weekly dart throws. Named for the against the grain value based selections; these are cheap to own players that could vastly outperform their costs on FanDuel. It’s also worth noting that it’s very early in the week and we therefore do not have practice reports, injury updates, weather conditions, etc. Be sure to follow up on articles that come out later in the week to help when choosing which of these picks you like best to round out your GPP tournament rosters for Week 8.
WR Russell Shepard vs OAK, $4,500.00
Vincent Jackson was put on IR last week and in Russell Shepard’s first game as Tampa Bay’s WR2 he saw 6 targets and a 20.7% target share. He turned those opportunities into 5 catches for 77 yards and a TD. This week, he’s at home and gets a Raiders defense giving up the most passing yards per game in the league.

RB Devontae Booker vs SD $5,600.00
With Booker getting to rush for 17 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown, Coach Kubiak was not lying when he said he wanted to get Devontae involved more. He goes against the 21st ranked defense of San Diego on Sunday, and could be a great sneaky GPP play. Update: With C.J. Anderson headed for the IR, Booker vaults into the low end RB1/high RB2 conversation. Not so sneaky now.

QB Josh McCown vs NYJ $6,400
In complete games, McCown and Kessler are averaging 265 yards and 1.25 TDs. This week they get the Jets who are the 2nd best run defense and 5th worst pass defense. The game script becomes pretty clear, I expect the Browns to be trailing and be incapable of running the ball.

TE C.J. Fiedorowicz vs DET $4,900
Frodo (as I call him) has gathered 20 targets over his last three games, and seems to clearly have separated himself from Ryan Griffin. I love this matchup against a Lions defense that is ranked 23rd against the pass and given up a whopping seven touchdowns to tight ends this season. He’s a cheap alternative and zag move to Jack Doyle as everyone will most likely be on him again this week. Trust Frodo.

WR Chris Hogan @ BUF, $5,200
I do not envy the Ryan brothers task of trying to slow down the Patriots offense somehow this Sunday. They will have to focus on the two giant TEs lining up on opposite sides and Edelman in the slot or Brady will simply pick them apart all game long with short passes as he marches the offense down field (he probably will anyway). With all this attention on weapons in the middle of the field it, should leave both Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell with mostly one on one looks with minimal safety help. I’m betting on Brady capitalizing on this seemingly inevitable scenario by taking a few deep shots in this game that could go for huge scoring plays.
