Selecting a quarterback is one of the last things I do when putting together my lineups, especially in cash games. I fill out other parts of my lineup first and then I usually select a QB with the money I have remaining. Running back is the most important position so I usually start there.

As daily fantasy sports has involved, more and more people are trying to be contrarian when it comes to putting together a lineup in GPPs. People have realized that paying down at QB is the smart thing to do because the position is deep and there is a lot of value. Spending down will allow you to spend up at other positions where there are more upside and a bigger gap in elite and not elite players. Think about season-long for a second. QB9 to QB17 were separated by 16 fantasy points in standard leagues in 2016. That’s a point per game and it’s a reason why many like to wait it out when drafting a quarterback. The same thing applies in DFS.
