The 2024 Megalabowl: New Rules for Fantasy’s Largest Tournament

The Megalabowl is the largest, season-long fantasy football league in existence that allows The Footclan to compete for a coveted Listener League invitation. With over 20,000 competitors the last two years the Megalabowl has grown from some humble beginnings. 2018 was the first year for the tournament style super-league – which I had thought at the time was an unmanageable amount of users to corral. Little did I know.

The Megalabowl pushes the limits of what season-long fantasy can be and is a chance to compete with other sharp, like-minded members of The Fantasy Footballers community. I wrote a strategy-based Megalabowl article last year if you want to give it a read.

What’s New For 2024

Trading is BACK! Trading, which we all love, with your leaguemates is once again allowed in the tournament. You will be able to trade within your 12 person league and better your team. However, trades and all transactions for that matter will be closely monitored.

6 Playoff Teams per League: Up from 3 teams in each league, now Footclan will only have to finish in the top half of their leagues to move on to the Playoffs. We look forward to hearing all the comeback stories of teams who sneak in after a slow start.

Megalabowl Leagues

The Megalabowl through the first 14 Weeks will be a familiar, 12-team, ½ PPR, snake draft league.

The scoring will mimic that of the Ballers Prefered Format and you can find other rules and settings at Megalabowl.com. Throughout the season use waivers and trades to build up your roster, set the best lineup you can each week, and have fun in your league chat.

The goal is simple: be among the top 6 teams in your league to make the Megalabowl Playoffs.

Playoffs

This is where things get different. In the Megalabowl Playoffs you will not have a matchup to win, instead you will be competing against ALL playoff teams trying to finish in the top 50% for each week. At this point waivers are locked, so your team needs to be squared away for your playoff run. Waivers will not process after the last week of the regular season (Week 14).

Championship Week

In Week 17 the remaining teams in the Playoffs will compete for the top score – and the team that puts up the most is crowned our Champion. The 2023 Megalabowl Champion – Kaleb Malakowsky – put up 216 points to take the championship and his seat in the 2024 Listener League.

Joining The Megalabowl

The Megalabowl Invite Link will be distributed the week of August 19th. 

Footclan Members will receive an invitation in their email and a post will be made available. There are a few errors that users make when signing up, so following this process will ensure that you are scheduled for the draft time you want and you get to compete. 

1. When logging into Sleeper to sign up ensure you are using the right sleeper account. Often, users have a second Sleeper account (they might not even remember) and use the wrong username or email. The best way to go about this is to use desktop, sign into Sleeper.com with the account you want to use, and open the invite link in that browser. 
2. When you sign up, you will receive a DM from SleeperBot on the app and you will see a countdown timer above your leagues. If you don’t see both, go through the sign up process again, if you see a shaded out draft time but still don’t have the DM/Countdown you need to email me. 
3. Leagues for the Megalabowl will be generated about 1 hour before the draft time, and the draft order is generated at the time of the draft. 
4. The way that the draft queues work is that all the users who sign up get into a league besides the leftover users in the queue that can’t fill a 12 person league. If this happens you will receive a DM from SleeperBot and you will be able to sign up for a new draft time. Remember this only happens to 11 or less users for each draft time and if this does happen to you – please email right away.
