Dynasty Lifecycles: Identifying Breakout Candidates for 2025
One of the keys to building a dynasty contender is understanding the peaks and valleys at each position. When do players break out? When do they approach their prime? Most importantly, when should we expect their production to inevitably decline?
Fortunately, we can use historical data to help answer these questions, which I highlighted in my Dynasty Lifecycle series last off-season. If you haven’t already, check out our breakdowns for each position:

Data Points: Breakout Trends
In this article, we will identify players poised for a breakout season in 2025.
Naturally, the definition of a breakout will change depending on who you ask and what criteria they use. For our lifecycle series, we used historical data to determine a points-per-game threshold for each position. That threshold for running backs was set at 11.5 half-PPR points, the average for an RB24 season since 2010. Historically, 41% of breakouts occur in an RB’s rookie year, while a staggering 72% occur within their first two seasons. In addition, the majority of breakouts are between 21 and 24 years old, which further supports the idea that RBs tend to emerge early in their careers.
For wide receivers, we also see a relatively early breakout age using the threshold of 11.0 half-PPR points, which is roughly the average for a WR24 season. About 43% of our breakout sample size fell between ages 22 and 23. In addition, we saw about 67% of breakouts occur within a WR’s first two years in the league. On top of that, nearly 80% of WR breakouts occurred by the end of their third season in the league. In other words, if we do not see a WR emerge by their third campaign, they are unlikely to break out at any point in their career.
