It’s time to turn the page and look ahead to Week 2!

On Tuesdays, Betz and myself share some of these insights on the Fantasy Footballers DFS Podcast if you want further commentary on some of the salary standouts.

Every week the First Look article gives you a taste of the slate and some of the more intriguing salaries that DraftKings and FanDuel release. The goal is to identify early-week cash game considerations, as well as potential tournament plays before we piece together the stacking options.

Check back on Thursday when Matthew Betz and I share our official DraftKings and FanDuel picks for cash and GPPs exclusively in the DFS Pass.

Here are the games for this week’s main slate* including team-implied totals (TIP) for each matchup.

Overview

For newcomers, the main slate for DFS includes the Sunday early (1:00 EST) and afternoon games (4:25 EST). At first glance, here are a couple of things to note:

  • We have 2(!) Monday Night Football games this week thus shrinking the main slate from a normal 13 games to 12. Oh, and you read those times correctly. The MNF games will overlap.
  • With the Aaron Rodgers injury (and total gut punch to the sports world), the NYJ/DAL game moved massively. Before MNF, it was DAL -3 and now it moved to -7.5 with the Jets’ team implied total plummeting to 17.3. Woof.
  • The afternoon slate, in general, looks pretty weak with all four games under 45. While it might be tempting to gain some leverage on the field, other than the 49ers it’s hard to trust any team in game environments that project as slogs.
  • KC & JAC is going to be a fun one with a total of 51. If you haven’t noticed by now, almost every game involving Patrick Mahomes is a barn burner for Vegas. People love the action.
  • SEA @ DET probably is a matchup that looms large in your mind. Why? Last year these two teams played in Week 4 and absolutely blew the doors off of Ford Field with the Seahawks outlasting the Lions 48-45. Chasing that exact game script is probably a bit presumptive but the Milly Maker last year went all-in at relatively low roster percentages outside of Jamaal Williams.

  • A reminder that the previous week in DFS looms large in the minds of most casual players. In other words, “this is what happened last week, let me react to it”. Develop a process, look at our Roster Percentage Report when it goes live later this week, and be willing to get different from the field.
  • All salaries are DK unless noted.

Quarterbacks

The return of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen gives us some true studs on this slate.

DraftKings

  • Josh Allen ($7900) sub $8K feels like a gift against the Raiders at home. I know the turnovers on Monday night were concerning but if the public is going to use that against the fantasy superstar, I’m in agaianst a lowly Las Vegas secondary.
