2017 NFL Week 1 Weather Conditions
Our excitement for the first weekend of NFL football is tempered by Hurricane Irma, which will be lashing Key West and Miami during the slate of games scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 PM ET. Fantasy is just a game based on a game.
This is a reminder that while we watch the other games played in pristine weather conditions, our thoughts and prayers should be with the residents of Florida, the players, staff and families of the Dolphins and Buccaneers, and the emergency crews responding to the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma.
Here are your NFL Week 1 weather forecasts:
Sunday, September 10, 2017:
Tampa Bay at Miami Dolphins
POSTPONED UNTIL WEEK 11
Temp: 86°
Precipitation: Torrential Rainfall
Wind: 60 mph
Wind Gusts: 86 mph
Fantasy Impact: Playing 16 consecutive weeks is far from ideal, but the decision to postpone the game until Week 11 to allow the players and staff of both teams to focus on their families and homes was a prudent and sensible move. Unfortunately, the players will have to contend with 16 consecutive weeks of football. This is unprecedented, with the full effects on player health unknown but it can’t be good.
Although all players will be impacted, I am very concerned about the unrelenting punishment on Jay Ajayi who averaged over 20 touches per game over the last 8 weeks of the 2016 season. In addition to the obvious injury concern, Miami may try to cap the touches Ajayi sees to keep him fresh for the duration of the season. Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake may see more work if true, but neither would be viable fantasy assets even with more touches. Should Ajayi go down, the resulting RBBC that would likely include Senorise Perry would be one to avoid if possible.
Also somewhat lost in the shuffle is Doug Martin. Martin was originally going to eligible to play against the New York Giants in Week 4 after serving the three remaining games of a four game suspension. Martin won’t be eligible to return until Week 5 now that the game has been postponed.
