Once again, we had another week of devastating injuries and brutal setbacks. At this point, I feel like Browns fans are the only ones having any fun right now.

The Browns kind of remind me of that SpongeBob episode where Squidward has to put together a marching band, and he, along with pretty much everyone else, thinks it is going to be a complete disaster. Then, at the last minute, SpongeBob and his friends put on the performance of a lifetime, and Squidward is left standing there looking at his rival Squilliam like the purple devil emoji.

Except this past Thursday, SpongeBob was Deshaun Watson, Squidward was Todd Monken, the Bubble Bowl was the football field, and Squilliam was Aaron Rodgers.

Ultimately, if there is one thing we know about fantasy football, it is that absolutely nothing is predictable. Cleveland is playing “Sweet Victory” right now, but who knows what next Sunday will bring. With another chaotic week behind us, let’s get into the biggest overachievers and underperformers for Week 5.

🏅 Overachiever: Kyren Williams (RB)

Week 4: 80 Rush Yds, 10 Receptions, 13 Targets, 67 Rec Yds, 2 TDs

Fantasy Pts: 36.7 Full PPR

Kyren Williams has always been a startable and reliable fantasy option, but nearly 40 fantasy points in a single week is ridiculously high even by his standards. Williams rushed 16 times for 80 yards and caught 10 of his 13 targets for another 67 yards in the Rams’ 24-20 comeback win over the Eagles. He finished with 147 total yards and 2 TDs, both of which came in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter.

This was not exactly an easy matchup. The Eagles were clearly focused on containing Williams, and along the way, he took some pretty brutal hits. There was also reason for fantasy managers to question Williams’ involvement in the passing game with Puka Nacua back on the field. Instead, he led the Rams in both targets and receptions, finishing with one more of each than Nacua.

For a player who was generally drafted in the late second to early third round, 36.7 fantasy points is the kind of ceiling you expect from the absolute elite at the position. I mean, those are the kinds of numbers Nacua managers were hoping to see.

The Fantasy Footballers currently project Williams for 192 fantasy points ROS, so getting nearly 20% of that total in one game is more than enough to earn him a spot in the overachiever section this week.

👎 Underperformer: Kenyon Sadiq (TE)

Week 4: 0 Receptions, 4 Targets, 0 Rec Yds

Fantasy Pts: 0 Full PPR

I was excited about Kenyon Sadiq this week. Actually, if anything, I put him in my lineup because I was at least confident that he could catch a football. Oh boy, was I wrong.

Not only was I wrong, I was zero points wrong. I lost my matchup by one singular point this week, and let me tell you where the finger pointed… straight at the guy who got me zero points.

Sadiq failed to catch any of his four targets in the Jets’ 23-12 loss to the Bears, which was especially painful after his performance two weeks ago. In Week 3, Sadiq caught seven passes for 105 yards and had his first NFL receiving TD, giving fantasy managers (myself) plenty of reason to believe the rookie was breaking out. Then the Jets ruled out Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell, and Mason Taylor for Week 4. With that many offensive weapons sidelined, it was pretty reasonable to think Sadiq would at least touch the football. I guess even that was asking too much.

To be fair, Sadiq entered the game questionable with a back injury, and the entire Jets passing offense was a mess. Geno Smith completed just eight passes, while Sadiq’s four targets actually tied Garrett Wilson for the team lead. The opportunities were technically there; it was the production that was absolutely not.

Also, I probably should have known better. A banged-up rookie playing in an already struggling Jets offense against the Bears defense was always going to carry some risk, no matter how enticing that Week 3 performance looked.

The Fantasy Footballers currently project Sadiq for 118 fantasy points ROS, so there is still reason to believe he can provide some value moving forward. But after watching a seven-catch, 105-yard breakout turn into four targets and zero catches just a week later, he is going to have to earn his way back into my flex spot. I learned my lesson.

🏅 Overachiever: CeeDee Lamb (WR)

Week 4: 17 Receptions, 21 Targets, 189 Rec Yds, 1 TD

Fantasy Pts: 41.9 Full PPR

CeeDee Lamb cooked this weekend. He caught 17 of his 21 targets for 189 yards and a TD in the Cowboys’ 34-30 win over the Texans, putting together the kind of stat line that looks ridiculous even by CeeDee Lamb standards.

The Cowboys entered halftime trailing by 10, but Lamb dominated in the second half. With less than a minute remaining in the game, Lamb made his biggest catch of the day, hauling in a 12-yard TD to give Dallas the lead. The 17 receptions and 21 targets were both career highs for Lamb, while his 189 receiving yards were his most since he torched the Lions for 227 yards back in Week 17 of 2023.

To put into perspective just how absurd this performance was, Lamb became only the fourth player in NFL history, and the first since Brandon Marshall in 2009, to record at least 17 receptions, 180 receiving yards, and a TD in a single game. Again, CeeDee Lamb being good at football is not exactly breaking news. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and a locked-and-loaded WR1. But 41.9 fantasy points from anyone, even Lamb, earns a spot in the overachiever section.

The Fantasy Footballers currently project Lamb for 263.6 fantasy points ROS, so there is little reason to expect his production to slow down. CeeDee Lamb put Dallas on his back Sunday, and fantasy managers were more than happy to hop on for the ride.

👎 Underperformer: Dalton Kincaid (TE)

Week 4: 1 Reception, 2 Targets, 7 Rec Yds

Fantasy Pts: 1.7 Full PPR

After the way Dalton Kincaid started the season, I certainly did not expect him to have a one-catch, seven-yard game just four weeks in. Kincaid caught just one of his two targets in the Bills’ 29-26 loss to the Patriots, setting season lows across the board. Really, the most frustrating part for fantasy managers is that he was barely given an opportunity to do more.

Even Bills coach Joe Brady acknowledged after the game that Kincaid needs to be more involved, saying, “There’s no reason Dalton Kincaid should have two targets,” and taking responsibility for finding more opportunities for him in the offense. That is certainly encouraging to hear, but it does not make you feel any better about the 1.7 fantasy points sitting in your lineup. Through his first two games, Kincaid had 12 receptions for 225 yards. Over the last two, he has managed just three catches for 45 yards on five total targets. That is quite the disappearing act.

The Fantasy Footballers currently project Kincaid for 151.7 fantasy points ROS, and he has already shown what he can do when Allen actually throws him the football. But after back-to-back weeks of reduced involvement, fantasy managers need to see Brady’s words translate into targets.

Hopefully, Week 5 is where that starts.
