Overachievers and Underperformers For Week 8 (Fantasy Football)
Well, we survived another week of fantasy football, and with Halloween right around the corner, it is time to start thinking about those last-minute costumes. If injuries have been haunting your fantasy roster, might I suggest a Jayden Daniels jersey paired with a full-body layer of bubble wrap and a few strategically placed “FRAGILE” stickers? I actually saw someone wearing this costume last weekend, and truthfully, at this point in the NFL season, there is certainly no shortage of jerseys you could swap out for Daniels’.
While some of our first-round picks and fantasy superstars continue to deliver week after week, others are giving us yet another jersey to add to our growing collection of disappointment. Honestly, if you tried putting on a jersey for every player who has landed on your injury report this season, you would probably end up looking like someone attempting the 100 T-Shirt Challenge. At least you would be warm…
So, in the spirit of Halloween, let us take a look at the overachievers who treated fantasy managers to monster performances and the underperformers who gave us the fantasy football equivalent of that one house on Halloween with all the lights off, an empty candy bowl on the doorstep, a “Please Take One” sign, and three sad Jolly Ranchers left at the bottom.
🏅 Overachiever: KC Concepcion Jr. (WR, CLE)
Let me tell you guys something. As someone who not only has KC Concepcion on her fantasy team but actually had the guts to start him this week, I was particularly excited about his performance. Something in my heart of hearts told me he was due for a breakout game. Of course, Deshaun Watson has been feeding him targets week after week, so maybe my instincts were backed by a little more than blind optimism. Either way, I had a good feeling about him, and I trusted it.
Even my boyfriend questioned my decision when I told him I was putting Concepcion in my flex. “Really? Concepcion? He hasn’t exactly had the best season.” Yes, really. I stuck to my guns, I rolled the dice, and I was rewarded handsomely.
There are very few things more satisfying in fantasy football than making a lineup decision everyone questions, watching it pay off, and getting to act like you knew exactly what you were doing all along, even though you were just hoping for the best.
In Sunday’s narrow 27-24 victory over Tennessee, Concepcion hauled in eight of 10 targets for 129 receiving yards while adding another 23 yards on three carries. The rookie wideout delivered the best performance of his NFL career, setting season highs in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
The chemistry between Concepcion and Watson has been building week after week, and a breakout was starting to feel inevitable. Coming into Sunday’s matchup, Concepcion had recorded just 186 receiving yards on the season. He nearly matched that total in a single afternoon, finishing with an impressive 23.20 full-PPR fantasy points without even finding the end zone.
And speaking of the end zone, Concepcion is still searching for his first career TD, and trust me, I want that TD almost as badly as he does. Heading into Week 8 against the Steelers, he is shaping up to be an increasingly intriguing WR3 option as his role in Cleveland’s offense continues to grow.
If Sunday was any indication of what’s to come, this rookie is just getting started.

⬇️ Underperformer: Nico Collins (WR, HOU)
Look, I was watching the Texans-Giants game on Sunday, and I cannot tell you how many times I found myself asking, “Is Nico Collins even playing in this game?” C.J. Stroud certainly was not having the game of his life, but I was genuinely surprised by how little Houston’s top receiver was being targeted.
In Sunday’s 27-21 overtime loss to New York, Collins hauled in just two of five targets for a whopping six receiving yards. Stroud managed to spread the ball around to nine different players, yet somehow struggled to get it into the hands of his most dangerous offensive weapon. And do not even get me started on the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade. The Texans really did all that just for him to spend the entire afternoon dropping passes.
For fantasy managers who have relied on Collins as a consistent WR1, watching him finish with a miserable 2.6 full-PPR fantasy points was nothing short of painful. To put that into perspective, Collins had not scored fewer than 10 full-PPR points all season.
The good news is that Collins remains Houston’s WR1, and one disastrous afternoon should not erase an otherwise impressive season. With the Texans heading into their Week 8 bye, Collins will have some extra time to regroup before facing the Chargers in Week 9.

🏅 Overachiever: Luther Burden III (WR, CHI)
Coming into the week ranked as the WR17 and No. 53 overall, Luther Burden III was not exactly the player fantasy managers were expecting to deliver a monster performance. However, he finished with an impressive 23.7 full-PPR fantasy points.
In Thursday night’s 30-24 victory over the Patriots, Burden caught all four of his targets for 130 yards and a TD while adding another seven yards on the ground. Now, four targets might not sound like much, but turning just four opportunities into 130 receiving yards is pretty remarkable. Some receivers need double-digit targets to put together that kind of performance, but Burden made every single one count.
The second-year wideout comfortably led Chicago in receiving yards, recording the third 100-yard performance of his career and his second-highest receiving total to date. Since Williams returned from injury in Week 6, Burden has caught all 12 of his targets for a combined 225 yards.
Burden is quickly making a case for himself as one of Chicago’s top receiving options, and dare I say, he might even be giving Rome Odunze a little competition for a top WR spot. Whether he can maintain this level of production on relatively limited opportunities remains to be seen, but he is certainly giving both fantasy managers and the Bears plenty of reasons to pay attention.
With a Week 8 matchup against the Seahawks on the horizon, Burden will have another opportunity to prove that this recent hot streak is more than just a couple of impressive performances.
Caleb Williams has targeted Luther Burden 17 times this season…
He has caught every single one. 🤯

⬇️ Underperformer: Kenneth Walker III (RB, KC)
Kenneth Walker III has been nothing short of explosive this season, which makes Sunday’s performance all the more disappointing for fantasy managers who have grown accustomed to watching him tear through opposing defenses. Unfortunately, Walker’s revenge game against his former team did not exactly go according to plan.
In Sunday’s 20-3 loss to the Seahawks, Walker managed just 36 rushing yards on 14 carries, averaging a measly 2.6 yards per attempt. He added four receptions on five targets for another 21 yards, finishing with a kind-of-disappointing 9.7 full-PPR fantasy points. For an RB who entered the week leading the NFL with 665 rushing yards, an impressive 6.3 yards per carry, and 20+ full-PPR points each game, this was easily his most underwhelming performance of the year.
To be fair, Seattle’s defense has been an absolute nightmare for opposing RBs, having not allowed a 100-yard rushing performance since Week 8 of the 2024 season. The good news? Walker has an excellent opportunity to redeem himself in Week 8 against Denver. And if you need a reminder of what he is capable of against the Broncos, look no further than the season opener, when he torched them for 191 scrimmage yards and two total TDs.
One disappointing performance should not erase what has otherwise been a phenomenal season, and fantasy managers have every reason to remain confident in Walker moving forward.
