Rookie Standouts

Germie Bernard

This week’s highest-priority waiver wire addition in redraft leagues was Pittsburgh Steelers rookie WR Germie Bernard. The absence of Michael Pittman Jr. allowed Bernard to play a season-high 92% of snaps for the Steelers in Week 5. His 30% target share ranked first among rookie WRs and 11th for all pass-catchers. Pittman Jr. was placed on IR due to a foot injury, and Bernard will continue to be Pittsburgh’s WR2 alongside DK Metcalf until Pittman returns.

Kevin Coleman Jr.

The Miami Dolphins have three rookie WRs that have shined in different games so far this season: Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr. Caleb Douglas opened the season with a 5/94 performance, but has missed three straight games with a sprained ankle. Chris Bell was then given an opportunity to perform in Week 3, where he posted 4/67 against the Chiefs. Now, it’s Coleman Jr.’s turn, and he saw seven targets and turned one of them into a three-yard TD grab. The biggest issue with Miami’s rookie WRs is their QB, Malik Willis. Douglas is the only Dolphins rookie WR with a catch rate of over 50%. Miami’s pass-rate ranks 24th through five weeks, and 15 completions a game from Willis simply is not enough for any of these WRs to become a reliable FLEX play. Each Dolphins rookie has shown promise, but dynasty managers might want to begin scouting the 2027 NFL Draft for QBs to support Miami’s pass-catchers.

Makai Lemon

The box score may not look as enticing for Makai Lemon as it does for other rookies from Week 5, but his increasing involvement in the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense is intriguing. Lemon has seen more targets in each of the last three games, culminating in a 5/43 stat line against the Jaguars in London. Hamstring injuries to Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith have led to Lemon’s increased volume, but this is also how most rookies start their NFL careers. Lemon could be a buy-low candidate if his manager has been disappointed by the first-round rookie WR’s performance through the first five weeks of his rookie season.

Stock Risers

Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Marvin Harrison Jr. era finally came to an end in Arizona when the Houston Texans acquired him and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. While this trade does not change how I feel about Marv’s talent or on-field performances through the first part of his NFL career, it does change how I view his outlook as a dynasty asset.

Marv teams up with his college QB, C.J. Stroud, and that entices a lot of dynasty managers. The Texans sent a second-round pick for Marv, indicating they still believe in some of the talent that surrounded him prior to his draft. He leaves Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals’ organization that many believe failed him and his development as a WR. However, I’m not convinced that this situation is perfect for Marv either.

The Texans are a defensive-minded team as currently constructed. They prefer to rely on their defense and rushing attack. Stroud took a step back after his rookie season, and Nico Collins is the clear alpha in the offense. Marv will compete for targets with pass-catchers like Dalton Schultz, Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte, and Tank Dell. Where you place Marv in that group should dictate what you do with Marv. If you believe he is clearly above all of those guys, go acquire him. The draft capital Houston just spent to acquire him should inspire you. However, if you view him as an equal to Tank Dell recovering from a long-term knee injury and Jaylin Noel, who was playing behind Jayden Higgins last season (who will return to the Texans in 2027 following recovery from an ACL tear), you should sell-high on Marv while his name is hot in dynasty circles.

Jaylen Warren

The Steelers signed Rico Dowdle in free agency, and Jaylen Warren was set to be in another committee. In Week 1, they split the work in the backfield, and neither RB performed well enough to run away with the job. However, Jaylen Warren has done exactly that over the past three weeks. Dowdle’s injury has led to Pittsburgh relying on Warren, and he has performed at an elite level. Warren has averaged 16/107 on the ground, while adding 4/41 in the receiving game in Dowdle’s absence. Dowdle’s turf toe injury will only keep him off the field for so long, but Warren has established himself as the Steelers’ #1 option at RB, while Dowdle should play a complementary role, rather than running as a 1B.

Stock Fallers

Rashid Shaheed

The Seattle Seahawks traded for Rashid Shaheed halfway through the 2025 NFL season. His involvement in the offense was minimal, but that was understandable considering Seattle was in the midst of a Super Bowl run, and they should not have prioritized Shaheed-based packages and plays. However, he showed special-teams flashes, most notably when he returned a punt for a TD against the Los Angeles Rams in a pivotal Thursday Night Divisional matchup that gave the Seahawks the leg up in the NFC West standings heading into the postseason. This offseason, I expected Seattle to work on getting Shaheed more involved in their offense. We are not too far removed from his 2024 season when he was the WR16 before his season ended due to a torn meniscus. However, the Seahawks just do not view Shaheed as a priority in the offense, and his boom/bust nature as a big-play WR makes him an even tougher FLEX play in deep dynasty leagues.

J.K. Dobbins

J.K. Dobbins is coming off his best game of the season, going 18/68/1 on the ground. That is the problem. Dobbins’ best game this season was a measly 3.8 YPC on 18 attempts, and his second-best game is 6.2 half-PPR points. “J.K. Two Legs” has struggled to find his footing so far this season, and he is getting carries that are mostly useless for fantasy production. He did find the end zone on a goal-line opportunity, which is a saving grace for his fantasy value. However, RJ Harvey’s monopoly over the receiving work and Denver’s middle-of-the-pack offense makes it hard to see a future where Dobbins fantasy production gets much better than this.

Prospect Performance

Patrick Overmyer

Houston TE Patrick Overmyer tied the single-game record for most TD catches by a TE with four TDs against Kansas State. He is eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft, but there was not much attention on his name prior to this week, and it is not a guarantee he will declare after this season.

Nick Marsh

While Jeremiah Smith has the top WR spot in the 2027 NFL Draft locked up, the competition for which WR is selected next will be interesting to follow throughout this CFB season. Nick Marsh’s fourth-quarter heroics against Nebraska established him as a prime candidate for that WR2 spot. Marsh scored a 75-yard TD on a post route to bring the game back within one score, then a 44-yard go-ahead TD on a 4th and 1.

Next Week’s Marquee Prospect Matchup

Ohio State vs Indiana

This matchup between the Buckeyes and Hoosiers should showcase a great display of WR play. Potential first overall pick Jeremiah Smith and first-round prospect Nick Marsh match up in what should be one of the best CFB games this season, as the two top-ranked Big 10 teams face off at Memorial Stadium.
