WR vs. CB Matchups to Monitor for Week 16 (Fantasy Football)
Integrating specific WR/CB matchups into your DFS process adds another layer of analysis into the mix. While this is only a piece of the puzzle, this tool allows you to better value ceiling-type plays for elite WRs who can run circles around their opponent.
I break up this WR/CB article into several categories: Alpha WRs, Slot Mavens, Discount Target Specials, and Full-On Fades. The goal is to go from the top-tier stars to move down to bargain WRs with excellent matchups. As always, make sure you use the tools found in the DFS Pass such as the Value Comparison and Roster Percentage Report to discern which WR would be best in cash and tournament lineup builds.
The purpose of this article is to focus on defensive matchups, but make sure to keep an eye on the weather this week. Saturday could have some of the most brutal playing conditions we’ve ever seen, so some favor should be given to players competing in warm weather or controlled climates.
As the NFL target leader and the WR1 for fantasy, Jefferson is currently the top alpha wideout in the league. This week he takes on a Giants’ defense that plays more man coverage than any other team in the league. Jefferson is averaging an elite 3.3 yards/route run and has racked up a league-high 234 YAC against man coverage alone.
Adoree’ Jackson has already been ruled out for a fifth straight week, so you can expect Jefferson to see a lot of coverage from Fabian Moreau, who leads the league with a 62% shadow rate. Moreau has allowed two touchdowns in his last three games while spending most of his time covering Terry McLaurin and Devonta Smith. He rarely goes into the slot, but he’s not great in coverage when he does. He’s allowed 59 yards and a touchdown from that area of the field on 41 coverage snaps. Jefferson has run out of the slot 30.5% of the time this season, averaging 3.73 yards/route run when aligned there.
