NFL DFS FanDuel Cash Picks: Week 1 (Fantasy Football)
Each week I’ll highlight my favorite cash game picks that I have some confidence heading into the weekend to put into my player pools. For more on cash game strategy and the mechanics of it, make sure you listen to our DFS Cash Overview episode. On the Fantasy Footballers DFS Podcast, Betz and myself will dive into a couple of these but this article is intended for DFS Pass subscribers to get the full lay of the land.
Note: Remember on FD the pricing for QBs is bunched together so seemingly “expensive” players. I personally like paying up for QBs on this site and which prizes rushing QBs even more than on DK.
Lamar Jackson @ NYJ- $8,500
This is Week 1 of the Lamar Hit Parade. No contract? Don’t care! In three career Week 1 games, he’s averaged 74% completion, 278 yards, three passing TDs & 46 rushing yards. The Jets were quite possibly one of the worst defenses of all time last year allowing the 2nd most 20+ yard pass plays.
Jalen Hurts @ DET- $8,000
We mentioned him on Tuesday’s podcast as the premiere cash game QB this week. The rushing floor is so high. Hurts averaged 8.43 rushing fantasy points per game in his 15 starts. If you include his four starts in 2020, that number jumps to 8.82. For context, through his 49 career starts, Lamar Jackson is at 8.6. The Lions allowed the 3rd most expected points per pass attempt in 2021.
Jameis Winston @ ATL- $6,700
He is just too cheap this week given the Saints’ 23.5-point team implied total. Last year in Week 1, Winston exploded for five passing TDs against Green Bay albeit on a limited number of pass attempts. Atlanta doesn’t rush the passer… actually that is too kind of a statement to make. Coming from a Falcons fan, with the lowest sack rate and highest clean pocket percentage in the NFL, it’s going to be clear skies for Winston. The salary says you need 20+ fantasy points for Winston to pay off handsomely in cash.
