DFS WR vs. CB Matchups to Exploit in Week 2 (Fantasy Football)
For Week 2, there’s never a better time to integrate specific WR/CB matchups into your DFS process. While this is only a piece of the puzzle, this tool allows you to better value ceiling-type plays for elite WRs and who can run circles around their opponent.
I break up this WR/CB article into a couple of categories: Alpha WRs, Slot Mavens, Discount Target Specials, and Full-On Fades. The goal is to go from the top-tier stars to move down to bargain WRs with excellent matchups. As always, make sure you use the tools found in the DFS Pass such as the Value Comparison and Buzz Report to discern which WR would be best in cash and tournament lineup builds.
I’m going to start by highlighting Stefon Diggs ($7,700-DK, $7,500-FD) matchup with Miami’s Xavien Howard, who will likely be shadowing. In Week 2 last year, he lit up CB Noah Igbinoghene for 8/153/1 and the Dolphins decided to switch it up when they faced him in Week 17. Howard followed Diggs all over the formation and while Diggs only played 31 total snaps, he went 7-for-76 before retiring to the bench in an easy victory for Buffalo. Fade the matchup and ignore the noise that might occur from last week’s Bill’s letdown. In Matt DiSorbo’s Matchup Mythbusters article from earlier this summer, he highlighted the fact top-5 passing offenses are more resilient against tougher defensive matchups. He concluded in his study that “the relationship between offensive rank and points scored is strong, but not so much with defensive rank“. Diggs an elite play on FanDuel this week. I’ll let you in on a little secret: I plan on attacking this slate with BUF-MIA stacks in large field tournaments as you can get Josh Allen + Diggs and another BUF pass-catcher for less than half the roster percentage you would with LAC or DAL stacks.
