Listen to Andy, Mike, and Jason’s thoughts on the New England-Kansas City game on today’s podcast.
1st Quarter
Rex Burkhead comes out on first snap. Is that just to mess with us all?–Kyle Borgognoni (@kyle_borg)
Rarrrr –JayGriz (@JayGrizFFL)
James White stays on field after third down work… also 2 big rushes on 3rd down (looking like most reliable fantasy RB by far). White also lining up outside in spread (caught short pass from outside on 2nd down), same for Burkhead, targeted in endzone from the 12)…Brady’s protection looks obscenely good…Amendola targeted on 3rd down in Edelmanesque way, also deep on 2nd -Matt Okada (@FantasySensei)
Burkhead and White doing early down work, Gillislee working near the redzone and goalline… Kareem Hunt fumbled on first play of his NFL career, NEVER fumbled in college once at Toledo…Travis Kelce used as QB sneak option in Wildcat formation for a 3rd down play, used to be a former QB in high school. -Brandon Sanders (@brandontsanders)
2nd Quarter
Charcandrick West gets most of the 3rd down work. Hunt noticeably absent on these downs…Hogan has 3 end-arounds through 2nd quarters… Danny Amendola on 3rd down again… he’s the new Edelman (#calledit) –Matt O.
There’s way more Tyreek utilization than I thought. The creativity that Andy Reid displayed was …After Burkhead started, he’s been noticeably absent. Gillislee is everything people dreamed of this offseason. -Kyle
The RB usage in NE was extremely promising for the value of Mike Gillislee and James White moving forward. They’re the one-two punch. Dion Lewis is an afterthought as expected. Meanwhile, Rex Burkhead lined up in the backfield a fair amount but the coaching staff showed reluctance to lean on his rushing ability. Burkhead saw only three total carries, the same amount Chris Hogan got because NE opted to use Hogan on sweeps rather than hand Burkhead the ball. While Burkhead is still an extremely important double handcuff to both Gillislee and White due to his capability in both phases of the game, he offers no standalone value moving forward until we see otherwise. –Ben Cummins (@bencumminsff)
1st Half RB Snaps (Per Nathan Janhke PFF)
43 total plays

3rd Quarter
Hunt’s vision has been impressive. His speed is not top end but it doesn’t really matter when you can set up defenders the way he can… Kelce has lined up in a number of different formations. Although you probably wanted even more targets, you should be encouraged as an owner… Tyreek really is the freak. 5 straight regular season games with 65+ yard TDs is not humanly possible. He is a mutant. The amount of opportunities available for Tyreek Hill in this offense is astronomical considering they ran him in a “Wing T” 4 or 5 times this quarter… Is Bulkhead alive??? No snaps this quarter. -Kyle
Amendola almost died (again) aka the Glass Cannon. He was the 3rd down go-to guy for Brady. Looks unlikely to return to the game… Gilly gets it on 1st and 2nd down on the goal-line… Hate to say it, but Brady has looked off. Very inaccurate on deep balls. That Cooks throw may have made up for all of the rest. -Matt O.

4th Quarter
Kelce has had 3 shovel passes on fake handoffs. What was the over/under on that?… Also the Patriots D doesn’t exist.. Alex Smith having a career night, not looking like a checkdown game manger at all…Kareem Hunt a true dual-threat with the running and passing game… An incredible catch and 2nd touchdown for the evening. The guy is a true workhorse for KC… –Matt O.
Smith must’ve had Pat Mahomes in his nightmares this off-season because he took some shots downfield with success…Burkhead has been spotted finally in the 4th quarter with 10 mins to go. He’s alive. Just not for fantasy hype owners. -Kyle
Gillislee offers much more than that as a between the 20s player as well. Don’t be fearful of the situation. Gillislee is a must start every week moving forward until he stops receiving 15 valuable touches in one of the best offenses in the league…Chris Hogan lined up in the slot at times last night. He’s going to be a very valuable player in this offense, especially if Danny Amendola continues to struggle to stay healthy. He’s an immediate buy low. -Ben
