Needs to step up in 2022
Sutton could take on a heightened role in the Denver passing game in 2022 after fellow wideout Tim Patrick suffered a season-ending knee injury Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Sutton already profiled as Denver's No. 1 wideout entering 2022 after he finished last season with 58 catches for 776 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games, but the loss of Patrick leaves even more target volume to go around. KJ Hamler is the leading candidate to step into a regular role in three-receiver sets and should benefit from a pure playing-time standpoint, but he, Sutton and Jerry Jeudy along with Denver's tight ends will all be collectively tasked with picking up the pass-catching slack sans Patrick. Even before Patrick's injury, Sutton already looked poised for an uptick in production with Denver making a significant upgrade at quarterback this offseason with the acquisition of Russell Wilson.
