Pat Freiermuth, TE (PIT)

Going through concussion protocol

Freiermuth is in the concussion protocol, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Freiermuth was examined for a head injury in the aftermath of Sunday's 41-10 loss at Cincinnati after hauling in all four of his targets for 40 yards and one touchdown. He'll need to clear league protocols in order to be available for game action, but getting back on the practice field quickly would be an indication that Freiermuth is making progress. With Eric Ebron (knee) on injured reserve, Zach Gentry and Kevin Rader currently are the healthiest tight ends on the Steelers' active roster.

Uncertain for wild-card game

Smith-Schuster (shoulder) practiced Thursday, but head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers have yet to determine if the wideout will be ready to play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Chiefs, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. "We just started the 21-day window," Tomlin said, in reference to Smith-Schuster being designated for return from injured reserve Thursday.
