Injuries could open up opportunity

Cannon could see his role expand with all three running backs ahead of him on the depth chart dealing with injuries.

Cannon -- who was signed mid-week prior to Sunday's win over the Eagles -- received one carry for minus-1 yard after Elijah Mitchell (shoulder), Trey Sermon (concussion) and JaMycal Hasty (ankle) all went down to injury. Only the latter is confirmed to have a long-term injury, so Cannon isn't guaranteed to start against the Packers on Sunday. The team also is bringing in a trio of veteran backs (T.J. Yeldon, Duke Johnson and Lamar Miller) to work out this week, according to Adam Schefter of Cannon still could be worth a speculative add in the event the 49ers' current backs have to sit out, and the veteran options aren't ready to play.
